Is bleeding between periods ever normal?

Just that really. Last period 2 weeks ago, woke up this morning bleeding. Sometimes bleed after sex too.. Not that sex happens enough to wonder if its a regular issue!
I'm not due a smear yet, bit too nervous to go to the doctors or make an issue about something that might be perfectly normal.
Thanks in advance

Yes it can be but the only way to know for sure is to go and see a Gp. Really it’s something you must do. It could be something simple like a cervical ectropian which can cause bleeding after sex etc.

You do need to see your GP, this is not normal.

I had this a couple of years ago, i ignored it the first time as a blip but went to dr the second time it happened. After a lot of tests it turned out I was bleeding when I ovulated as well as my hormones had got a bit messed up due to stress.

So nothing major. But it could be.

Its something the doctors will want to run tests for but often nothing to worry about. My tests showed a fibroid.

I get irregular bleeding. Tests at doctor showed everything is fine. I think its just my age

funmummy48 · 17/04/2018 07:52

Mind was caused by a polyp on my cervix which was completely harmless but which I had removed. It can be normal but you ought to get it checked just to be sure.

It’s normal for me because I have PCOS so my period are all over the place but they’ve always been like that. Something new is different.

About 6 years ago I suddenly started getting pain and bleeding the week before each period, at a time when I was stressed up to the eyeballs with work. Got a great doctor, who did every test under the sun, then had keyhole surgery to check for endometriosis.

They found a bit and removed it. The op was just after I quit the stressful job and I rarely bleed now, so it could well have been the stress, endo or both causing the bleeding.

I still get some pain but it's totally manageable and I tell myself it's just my body talking to me (ovulation/period due).

So it's not normal but it's not necessarily anything to worry about. Still best to check though.

I'd get to the gp ASAP and if you say this is the problem they'll investigate pretty promptly - I was seen and examined by gp and referred to Gynae within a fortnight - all was fine it was cervical erosion but always needs checking . I do worry when I see so many conception threads about implantation spotting etc as it's still irregular bleeding

freshstart24 · 17/04/2018 08:25

I had this and after an examination found a small fibre from a tampon against my cervix causing the bleeding on and off.

Apparently it could have developed into a more serious infection.

Do get this checked out OP. You absolutely will not be wasting anyone's time.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 17/04/2018 08:48

It's likely to be nothing but no dr worth their salt will turn you away and tell you you're wasting their time with bleeding between periods and after sex. Please don't ignore it.

About 10 years ago I had intermittent bleeding and reassured myself that it was just cervical erosion and therefore nothing to worry about but I mentioned it to my gp anyway when I saw her over something else. Long story short, it turned out to be CIN III and a very small area of cancerous cells which were removed with a cone biopsy. It was very easily treated and has caused me no problems since but had I continued to ignore it it would have been a lot more difficult to get rid of.

ApplesinmyPocket · 17/04/2018 09:00

In my late 30s I started to get mid-cycle spotting (you say yours was 2 weeks after your last period, so similar.) It became a pretty normal thing for me and I'm 60 now - it stopped when my periods stopped.

So yes, bleeding between periods can be nothing to be worried about.

So keep it in mind that it is quite likely to be nothing at all, but it's still something that should be checked, just in case it needs to be dealt with. The doctor definitely won't think it's a waste of their time.
