Scared by these symptoms- can someone help?

I've had a low grade ache in my right abdomen area, about 3 finger widths in from my right hip bone, for around 2-3 months. My GP referred me for a pelvic ultrasound, which came back normal. Some days I forget about it but I've become more worried about it recently as a friend was diagnosed with bowel cancer very young.
No change in bowel habits, no blood in stool. GP said she could hear gas moving around if she pressed on my bowel but I don't think grassiness explains why the pain is always in the same place, does it?
I called my GP today and said I'm not happy being sent away with no answers. I suggested appendix and hernia problems, she said it wasn't an appendix problem as it was the wrong place, but could be an abdominal wall hernia so is referring me for a scan to check that. She said she'd also refer me for blood test for inflammatory bowel markers.
I have a heavy 2 year old and thought it could be muscle strain from lifting her. Another GP also mentioned adhesions.
Anyone with any advice on any of these please shout- I'm pretty scared here. Thanks

Hi - no answers I'm afraid but bumping this as I've had something similar for about a year! Blood tests normal, nothing on scans. But like you say a dull ache and in my case a sensation of pressure when lying down.

LilaGrace · 17/04/2018 19:23

Katisha- really? What tests have you had? Is your pain always in the same place?

Just blood tests and couple of ultrasounds. It just aches - and feels like pressure -no other issues. But it's a nuisance when lying on one side as I feel something - as if something is there, but according to scans nothing is!

Is it consistently bad? Does it get worse around ovulation? Sorry- not sure how old you are 😮

My hips still hurt 2 years after pregnancy. Could it be muscular?

LilaGrace · 17/04/2018 19:45

Cottonsock- could be muscular. This is what I thought at first. I'm always lifting my toddler- and the action to get her in the car seat particularly is always awkward. I just don't want to assume it's muscular without ruling our other things.

No it's constant low level. My current theory is muscular or something to do with the hip but dr doesn't think it needs an x-ray

CottonSock · 17/04/2018 19:55

Sounds like your gp is referring you for the right things. For me I think being pregnant destroyed my abdominal wall.

LilaGrace · 17/04/2018 20:02

Cotton- did you have any tests?

Can I ask, did you have a csection birth with your daughter? I have had three c sections and get abdomen pain and a tugging sensation when I twist or stretch. I have been told it’s adhesions and scar tissue.

NotMyNameButHereForever · 17/04/2018 20:07

Are you on any opiate pain meds? If yes, google Narcotic Bowel Syndrome. If no, then I have no help but couldnt' read and run and wanted to bump for you (feeling that pain as have started my own thread re health issues - breast explants - that's horribly quiet when I'm desperate for answers too!)

RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 17/04/2018 20:08

Throwing a curveball here but I had pain where you describe. Low level all the time. Months went by. It got a little worse. Scans revealed nothing. As a final scan, I was sent for a kidney CT - they told me they didn't expect to find anything.

It was a large kidney stone that, as it slowly grew, made its presence felt more and more. So just keep it in mind as a possibility

NippleShieldSizeSmall · 17/04/2018 20:10

😧 I'm having exactly the same problem right sided ache for a number of months, stomach swelling, feels like a rock in my side, nausea, pressure but not painful

Been for number of scans & blood tests turns out it's my gallbladder

dontdillydallytoolong · 17/04/2018 20:10

I had peritonitis when I was very young, which has left me with internal scar tissue. It attaches to organs and muscles. This means that I can get pain which varies from a dull ache to an intense pain when exercising. It does get better the more you exercise as it stretches. Have you ever had an internal infection, or an operation that may have left you with any scar tissue?

springmadness10 · 17/04/2018 20:13

It's definitely worth pushing for more tests. I had a similar weird sort of nagging, tugging pain for months. Had an abdo scan which was fine and various blood tests all fine. I just accepted it as something to do with csection / muscle strain. Few months later I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and after the treatment the pain went away.

Not suggesting that's what you've got, just that sometimes aches and pains are two steps away from the cause and not always seen immediately without further digging.

LilaGrace · 17/04/2018 20:24

I had a c section 2 years ago with my second child. Rolypoly- what happened with your kidney stone? Was it removed?
Spring- that is terrifying. We're your smears up to date? Did you have any other symptoms?
I'm not on opiated pain meds (or any meds). I considered gall bladder and kidney stones but thought the pain would be somewhere else....

Yes. I had a procedure called lithotripsy to shatter it. God the pain. Terrible. For weeks. But then ok

springmadness10 · 17/04/2018 22:47

It was picked up on a routine smear test and that's how I found out and realised after that the pain had gone after treatment. Cervical cancer had never crossed my mind. I didn't have any other symptoms at all. I'm all fit and we'll now though and clear for 4 years.
