New migraine treatments - what works for you?

I've said for years that if someone designed a ice cooled skull cap for compression and bringing my temperature down, I'd pay them anything they wanted.

I've just found one online and bought it. It's amazing - had a migraine the day it arrived, and went to bed with it on as well as my triptan meds and actually managed to sleep instead of tossing as turning.

It's not a magic cure, and my mate feels sick with the light compression when he tried it on with his migraine, so it's clearly not for everyone, but if you're like me, have a look for MigraCap - I got mine on amazon.

Anyone found anything new recently?

I'm afraid I have nothing to offer as a recommendation, but that cap sounds exactly like what I need when I have a migraine!

Thank you for posting about it, I'm off to make a purchase.

You're welcome! I paid about £32 delivered. I think I'll buy another, so I can alternate then as one warms up, the other can be in the freezer.

I’m another who hates the pressure on my head. Strangely, I find that pressure on my jaw also brings on migraines - found this out from a job where I wore headphones 99% of time! Having hair up, sunglasses and hats on can also do it.

For me, only sumatriptan works. Also placemarking for more suggestions.

Place marking for something non pressure related as pressure makes it worse for me. I've not had anything that works except laying in a dark room in silence occasionally throwing up in a carrier bag for 6 hours Envy

Nasal spray sumatripan stopped working for me, so I was moved to rizatriptan. Seems to work, but I always need a 2ndndose and it leaves me with unpleasant side effects - massively disturbed sleep for 2 days being the primary one.

I used to use old fashioned ice bags - one for my neck, one for my forehead.

Buccastem helps with the nausea - I don't tend to actually vomit. Do any of you use that? It melts in the mouth, so no pills to swallow.

I've recently been prescribed Buscam for 'stomach migraines'. I went brought a phase of having random, intense and sudden bouts of severe nausea and vomiting. Seemed to help. Is that the same thing?

Oreocrumbs · 15/04/2018 20:20

I started on sumatriptan tablets. And after a while I found they didn't work as well so moved to rizatriptan. I've gone back to sumatriptan because rizatriptan made me feel sick, and I don't usually get sick with a migraine unless it's a really bad one.

I usually take the tablet and lie with my neck on an ice block (the type you put in the picnic box). Also pulling my hair (reasonable force but not out!) helps a bit. I'm excited to try the cap!

I’ve just been prescribed Bucastem.
It’s amazing.
