Jaw pain

I have always had a clicky jaw but over the last couple of days it has become increasingly painful, the joint at the opposite side to the click hurts, is slightly swollen, I can't open my mouth wider than to fit a malteaser in (which is lucky). I can't bite down without pain and if I yawn its really bad. My teeth feel like they don't really fit together if that makes any sense at all. Its very odd. Any ideas what could have caused it? No trauma or memorable moment when it started hurting.

I have the exact same thing. I did read that it can just flare up from time to time. I was so miserable when it did it last time as it lasted about 3 weeks. Dreading it coming back again 🙁

I have this. For me, it's caused by grinding my teeth... I now have a splint from the dentist and make an effort to only eat soft foods, but it's been going on for the last 6 months.

Talking lots and shouting makes it worse Angry

Get to the dentist..

I have Arthritis in my jaw. A dentist or Gp can refer you to max fax for them to take a look. It's a complex and specialised joint.

:( gosh that awful for you guys. I am looking for the silver lining if I can only eat what I have today I'll lose a ton of weight.

DH made me a lovely soft roast and veg but I couldn't eat the chicken. If it doesn't go in a couple of days I will see someone.

You should get it seen. I had a colicky jaw for years without much pain and it was dismissed as muscular. Then a dentist decided it wasn't and sent me to a max fax surgeon because I was often in excruciating pain, severe ear ache. He operated fairly quickly to wash it all out, put steroids in and he discovered that there was damage in there.

Click not colicky 🙄

I am a ‘bruxer’ too, and the clenching (rather than grinding) has caused a lot of molar damage over the years. One of those molars had a root filling that eventually developed an abscess. It was truly awful, the sickest I’ve ever been.

The early symptoms sound like yours: teeth not fitting together, painful to open jaw, etc. Get to a dentist sharpish, although there’s not a lot they can do until the infection is under control. That said, mine was drained and it was blessed relief, albeit temporary.

weirdly i went to the dentist on Monday and all was fine.

I work with max fax drs in my normal job but I haven't been there for a few months and strangely enough I'm going in for something tomorrow so might see if I can collar one of them.
