Stuck on floor - back went - what to do

Went to pick up washing basket and felt back go (weird squidge feeling). My 12yo
Is here but DH away until this eve. Taken ibuprofen and have ice pack and cushion (lovely DS died on fortnite to get me stuff!). But I’m sort of stuck. There are positions of no pain which I can get into v v slowly (am on on fours with butt in air at mo) - but tiny variations from this are excruciating.

Anyone with back pain experience - what should I do? Should I grin and bear the pain to try and get to sofa (next room) or just try to lie down on floor where I am (can’t stay in all fours position much longer arms hurting - but not back! Yay!)

Take some paracetamol as well?

DH not back til 6pm

This happened to me once. PT advised aletrnating hot and cold. So Ice pack for 10mins, then 20mins off, then hot water bottle for 10mins. Gentle stretching when you’re able. Good luck! 💐

QuiteCleanBandit · 15/04/2018 12:14

Can a friend get to a chemist and get some paracetamol/codeine ?
You could at least then get to the loo/bed.
Dc can make sandwiches/drinks

diymania · 15/04/2018 12:15

Guess my question is is it likely to ease up in an hour or so - so stay on floor and then move later. Or is it likely to be as painful then so just find something more long term (sofa) now

Might have some para and codeine - will send DS upstairs!

Sorry but the only advice I can give is to ring 101 and ask for advice.
I think that you can take Ibuprofen and paracetamol together but again not absolutely sure.
If you're on all fours, can you maybe crawl to the settee very carefully.
I bet your 12yo is worried to bit, bless him!
Hope pain subsides soon OP Flowers

Something like this happened to me and I (stupidly) lay on the floor and got stuck there for quite a while. I ended up having to just get up, pushing through the pain. If you can get up and walk round it might help. (Disclaimer: Don't listen to me, I'm not a Doctor.)

jazzandh · 15/04/2018 12:18

My dad and I get this fairly regularly and take naproxen which helps wit the inflammation.

If you can't get a prescription, it is in feminax ultra which can be purchased otc.

Just gently move when you can.

Hoppinggreen · 15/04/2018 12:24

Don’t lie flat On the floor, when my back goes it’s really hard to get up from that position
Try to crawl to sofa if possible, walking works best for me along with ice and Naproxen ( which you can now not get from the chemist as Feminax so you need to have period pains to get it iyswim?)
Sitting still makes mine worse, lying flat is ok but on a bed or sofa So I can swing my legs over to get up

reallybadidea · 15/04/2018 12:24

Call 101 or out of hours GP. I've had the same thing and needed diazepam (an embarrassingly huge dose) to release the muscle spasms enough for me to move. It was horrendous, you have my sympathy.

diymania · 15/04/2018 12:26

Result! I have moved successfully on my side! And have para and codeine - only slightly out of date. I’ll try those, give it 20mins then just move (carefully!). as I’m not in pain in certain positions I think I’ll be fine. Thanks all!

You can take para, codeine and iboprufen together. You really need some diazepam to relax your back but rest and heat/ice should help. It should ease up over the next few days. Sounds like a back spasm which sadly I am also familiar with. Just rest and let your family look after you. A wee wine is helpful I find too!

StoorieHoose · 15/04/2018 12:55

Sounds like a back spasm. Try and get a doc appointment and ask for diazepam as it will relax the muscle. Try not to lay flat as it is impossible to get up unless you roll onto your side and up onto all fours. You have my sympathies- I’ve had a few back spasms and at times it was worse than childbirth!

Ollivander84 · 15/04/2018 12:58

Paracetamol, codeine, ibuprofen and diazepam
My last one needed gas and air to get me up Blush but I've since had spinal surgery!

reallybadidea · 15/04/2018 13:00

Once you're feeling better I would recommend Pilates for strengthening your core - my back has been a million times better since I started doing it.

CannaeBeErsed · 15/04/2018 13:36

Similar happened to me once. I couldn't move. I called my local doctors and the doc came out and gave me some wonderful tablets (there was diazepam, naproxen and a heavy duty codeine) that made me all woozy, stopped my back spasming and I could have kissed her. Half an hour later I was able to stand up.
In your position I would call 111. They might send a doc out.

diymania · 15/04/2018 15:22

Thanks everyone! It's so much better. I can move and walk around gingerly. Will keep dosed up on the pain killers. DS has been an absolute star and is v happy instead of my planned lets-do-something-active day we're having an enforced home-sofa day!

I do yoga, but could try and do some Pilates too. I know what set it off. Picking up and Moving bikes into the back of my car yesterday - need to get a bike rack or just listen to my body a bit more 🙄!
