Can anyone recommend an NHS urologist for bladder/UTI symptoms in the East Midlands

I have recurrent UTIs but the latest one just won't go away and the drs don't believe it is a UTI as they cannot grow any bacteria. Blood tests all fine, kidney scan fine. Symptoms for 2 months are constant headache, going to toilet all time, feeling severely sick constantly, dehydrated in night, unable to sleep, shivering, sweating in night, lower back pain. I did have cloudy urine at the beginning. I also have dull ache down below and stabbing pain. Have had 3 courses of antibiotics which each time improve my symptoms but after stopping them all the symptoms come back. Seen a urologist who is adamant it's not a UTI as the bacteria would have shown up and it would have cleared after 3 antibiotics. I have tried searching for Urologist in East Mids who specialises in recurrent UTI/lower UTIs/upper UTIs and who has a broader view of UTIs rather than the NHS guidelines like some of the London specialists do but not having much luck finding someone. Any recommendations?

Professor James Malone lee London Harley street , he will I guarantee find infection .

Treatment however is long term high dose antibiotics/ hipprex.

He has just released a paper on the whole subject, and the fact that UTI tests are as good as useless.

Urologists are actually hopeless with recurring UTIs.

I can relate to what your saying sometimes it does not show up and the culture does not grow as my freind is suffering like yourself she has a urine infection which causes a lot of pain and she's on antibiotics most of the time . Ask your doctor to put you on a antibiotic all the time so it keeps it at bay they can do that but you will have to persist . Drink cranberry juice every day that can sometimes help . Hope that helps hope you feel better it's very draining it effects daily life and the doctors don't understand that

Ask your GP to refer you to another urologist?

Also I suggest cranberry extract tablets, not juice.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I have researched Prof Malone Lee but the waiting list is horrendous - for now I just want to get rid of this now. I've been taking d-mannose tablets, vitamin c with quercetine for inflammation, probiotics. I feel slightly better but I think that might be because I'm taking some antibiotics that I had which didn't work back at the beginning of March - I'm hoping that the latest set of antibiotics killed off the majority of the infection and these antibiotics are able to kill off the remainder.

Again, thank you for the link. Spoke to my consultant about this today. His response? Doesn't agree, told me most consultants dont agree, hes never going to change his mind - no bacteria = no infection, it will be IC or chronic pelvic pain syndrome - this even when my symptoms barely relate to either of those conditions, my other symptoms will be related to something else and its just a massive coincidence that every time i have sex i get chronic uti symptoms and this time its also a coincidence that i now seem to have different illnesses that mimic uti symptoms and in any case he said my symptoms arent even uti symptoms. Really? Chronic kidney pain, keep needing a wee, feverish, nauseus, headache - maybe he hasnt read the nhs uti infection symptoms.

Well he sounds delightful, however I think he is in a majority.
Can you look into going privately to a different consultant?
It used to be accepted practice to give 6 months low dose antibiotics to allow the bladder to heal- I had this myself when I was younger. Would he do this for you?

It’s still in the Nice guidelines to give 6 months low dose antibiotics - so you could definitely push for this?
Bladder Health UK are a useful charity to contact.

Hope you feel better soon.
I am under one of the consultants listed on the Chronic UTI page but not Prof JML. I’ve only just been seen for initial consultation but he was lovely and very helpful.
