Urethral prolapse

snapple21 · 15/04/2018 04:52

Has anyone any experience of this? I'm currently in agony after a sudden urethral prolapse on Friday.! It was severe and had become strangulated and thrombosed.

I developed what I thought was a UTI before I stopped being able to wee and felt what I now know was my massively swollen urethra on the outside - a big shock as you can imagine.

I had emergency surgery last night, they had hoped to push it back in manually however it just kept prolapsing and he had to excise it whatever that means.

I'm in so much pain and I'm only 28 with no reason why this should have happened. I had a vaginal delivery 4 years ago. Generally fit and active.

I guess I'm just asking if anyone has experienced this, I know it's rare, looking for some positive experiences for recovery.

I think you should phone for urgent medical advice, if you haven't done so already.

Take care.Thanks

snapple21 · 15/04/2018 17:23

It says I had emergency surgery and I'm in hospital

I'm guessing nobody has any experience of this with the lack of replies. Feeling really down about it today.

Sorry, no experience but Flowers and bumping thread for you OP.

SarahSea1 · 15/04/2018 17:26

No experience of this, OP, but just to say it sounds awful and a real shock for you (and to give your post a bump). Presumably as you're under hospital care they'll be helping with recovery/rehab and loading you down with information. Does your specialist know of support organisations or any research you could access?

I have a catheter in for the next two weeks to let it heal and hopefully I will be able to wee normally again. I'm still in hospital at the moment. I will write a list of the things mentioned here to ask the consultant. Thank you for the replies.

How are you feeling snapple?

Ridingthegravytrain · 16/04/2018 20:10

Really sorry for you snapple. I have one too, though it’s not coming out it has dropped down. But I’m putting off surgery as I had one surgery a few years back and can’t face any more yet

All I can say is do not do anything until you are able to urinate properly. Just rest. And then take it easy for a few months after. It takes a long time for prolapse surgery to heal. They tell you 6 weeks but that is nonsense. When I pushed my surgeon he said 3 months minimum of doing very little and no lifting but they don’t tell people or they wouldn’t get it done!

I really hope you heal well

snapple21 · 16/04/2018 22:48

Thank you for the replies. I'm still in hospital very sore. The sutures are internal so the catheter is constantly irritating them. I can't have a poo either so having lots of laxatives - terrified to push it out and end up prolapsing again!

I haven't dared ask about time off work etc yet. I'll have to speak to the consultant properly this week. I think I'll be here another day or two yet as still needing morphine.

It's the most pain I've experienced!

ForkIt · 17/04/2018 18:10

Hope it’s less sore today x

Buckingfrolicks · 17/04/2018 18:10

God I didn't know such things were even possible I'm so sorry to hear it. Sounds frightful. I hope your work place is understanding - get well soon Thanks

Chrisinthemorning · 19/04/2018 05:53

How are you doing snapple?

snapple21 · 20/04/2018 16:42

Thanks for asking.

I'm at home with a catheter for another week and struggling massively. It's very very painful.
It's hard because it's so rare - nobody has any real experience of this or idea in regards to recovery.

I am on an interstitial cystitis FB group- 1000s of women on there with bladder problems who are really supportive. Some self cath regularly.
Might be worth a look?
Take care Flowers
