As the title says. It comes and goes but is getting worse. It woke me last night and I’ve been on ibuprofen for the last couple of days. It’s not agony, but I would like to know what is at the root cause and not be fobbed off with painkillers if I go to the doctors. If feel like it’s sapped all of my energy this weekend and I’m pretty down.
Will they do anything for me? Investigate it? Our lot act as if they are paying for any referrals out of their own pocket, (if you can actually get an appointment in the first place) so I do tend to avoid going, or only go after something has been troubling me for a few months.

They ought to investigate it, certainly. My brother had a hip replacement in his 30s due to serious arthritis in that area, and he didn't have to fight for referral or get fobbed off - if he'd left it, it could have been a lot worse.

When I was 23 I had suffered hip pain for years. I ended up having a steroid injection and the relief was incredible. Still get it very occasionally but nowhere near as bad.

I went to the gp for this. I’d already had a lot of private physio and chiropractor. Got referred to an orthopaedic clinic, doctor there wasn’t impressed with what my physio had done and referred me for nhs physio which I’m currently having. He said if that doesn’t help he will see me again in clinic and discuss possible next steps.

Thanks all. I will book an appointment

I've just had an x-ray and mri scan for hip pain - in my area we self refer to physio and physio referred me on to orthopaedics.

Turns out hip is completely fine so probably something muscular that was causing the problem, which the NHS physio ruled out. Anyway, yes, you should be able to get it investigated. I was 40 when referred.
