What's wrong with me? Blood tests are fine!

Had a blood test recently as was feeling very fatigued and run down. Kept getting other symptoms which came and went like constipation, muscle weakness, pins and needles and red dry flaky patches all over my face including eyelids - sometimes with puffiness which I've never had before (normally my skin is quite oily!). Not sure if all these symptoms are related to each other but I thought I had underactive thyroid as symptoms seem to fit.

Blood tests come back fine except very slightly low iron and low thyroid levels, not enough to warrant medication.

So why am I feeling so shit? My job is quite physical and I'm just feeling so worn out.

I did have a hysterectomy (ovaries left in) in November but had such a good and speedy recovery so don't feel it's connected.

Anyone had similar symptoms?

GreenItWas no I don't think they've changed the formula (it's the M&S formula). I went through a whole tub with no adverse effects at all.
Ah yes, probiotics - thanks for reminding me, that is worth considering. I remember a mumsnetter on here a few years ago saying that most women in the their 40s will need to take probiotics (she backed it up with sciencey stuff - I just can't remember it!)

You can develop a sensitivity to products at any point. My skin is usually the type I can chuck any old thing on but halfway through a tub of very very mild bland moisturiser I had quite a nasty reaction to it. Pump action dispenser so unlikely to be contaminated and it was perfume free and very few ingredients. It can happen.

Good to know Hypermice, I've stopped using it and only using my son's eczema cream seems to feel ok on my skin at the moment, everything else stings.

I'm guessing you were given antibiotics when you had your hysterectomy. Can you remember which ones?

I had a "borderline' underactive thyroid for a couple of years. I was then started on a low dose of Levothyroxine, which was gradually increased to the current dose. My energy levels are much better now.

I've been asked that before maxthemartian but no, didn't take antibiotics before or after my hysterectomy. And I haven't taken antibiotics for a good few years at least.

Cantthinkofabloodyname what were your symptoms when you were border line? And when you started on a low dose, were you still borderline or had it got a bit worse hence the medication?

It does sound like it might be thyroid related then. I know some people feel like absolute hell at levels the gps don't seem that concerned about. It really may be worth making an appointment with the gp who gave you that prescription although it was a bit off of them not to talk it through with you.

Definitely ask for the actual results
Mine went "fine, fine, fine" for FIFTY blood tests. Until a locum GP sent me for bloods because I was having night sweats. She pulled up every test I ever had, rang me and sent me to haematology as an emergency
Turns out I had been severely neutropenic for EIGHT years. And nobody had thought to refer me
That explained all the countless bouts of infections, I had no bloody immune system!

I was constantly tired, gaining weight & the worst thing of all was the itchy skin all over my body. No matter what moisturisers I used, the itching carried on and was driving me bonkers.
