Sister has myeloma and is starting cycle 4 of 6. She has to have a stem cell transfusion I think she called it where she will be in hosp for up to 3 weeks abd her hair will go. She has been so brave last few months but now is devastated and do tearful about her hair. I just dont know what to say

There isn't really much you can say. It's shit.

All you can do is support her through this. Depending on your relationship she might appreciate some help with wig shopping and/or finding suitable hats. She might also need someone to shave her head when the hair starts to come out.

What I found most shocking was how cold it was at nighttime with no hair. I needed to wear a hat even in summer. I have s9me very comfortable ones so I'll see if I can find a link :)

So sorry to read that

It’s really difficult to predict which bits of treatment will trigger the strongest emotional reactions. And there isn’t much you can do, other than listen to her, support her and not try to fix it (because you xan’t)

If she wants practical help (like choosing turbans) then yes, throw yourself into finding the loveliest and softest. Or you could see if her hospital runs Look Good Feel Better sessions on site, assuming she can leave the ward. Will she have to be in isolation for parts of this treatment. How long for?

I liked these Anna Bandana sleep hats. For some reason the lace made them feel a tiny bit less frumpy/utilitarian. They're very soft and cosy.

I got various other hats from that site too. They're all comfortable and there's lots of different styles and colours.

I had a fantastic wig and I wanted to wear it all the time. But it gave me an awful headache if I wore it too long. It wasn't too tight. I also get headaches from fitted hats and hair bands and stuff. I just have a pathetic head Hmm
