I believe the NITTY GRITTY comb is one of the best inventions EVER...

DTDs have just had one of the worst episodes of headlice we have had (and I know people have much worse - we have been v lucky)

10 days ago (day 0) I removed 5 adults and about 60-80 eggs with the nitty gritty from DTD1. DTD2 had 2 adults and about 30 eggs.
Day 2 - I removed about 20-30 eggs from DTD1 and about 6-10 eggs from DTD2
Day 4 - I removed about 6 eggs and 1 tiny louse from DTD1 and nothing from DTD2.
Day 8 - I removed nothing from either.

So from the 120-150 or so eggs which seem to have been laid - only 1 apears to have hatched.
Thats 119-149 eggs which the nitty gritty has removed.
Thats 119-149 lice which have not got to the point of crawling round DTDs heads making them itch
Thats 119-149 lice which have not been liberated from their heads, free to infect me, DP, DD3 or classmates - how sociable is that?
Thats 119-149 lice which I have not had to chase around their head with a crappy bug-buster omb with 3 missing teeth

The NITTY GRIITY rocks!!!!

One of the best inventions, definitely!

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 11/05/2007 23:10

agree

adn youa re SO odd ot count

misdee · 11/05/2007 23:10

yes it does!

MrsWho · 11/05/2007 23:12

PMSL that you counted !

SlightlyMadScarecrow · 11/05/2007 23:14

I was just pondering this.

Most people out our school use a bug buster (given out free)...but that only catches the live lice...so you have to wait for them to hatch and in 4 days hundreds could hatch...thats hundreds of lice that can crawl around the classroom...I just think that getting the eggs out is very sociable...that and the fact that I hav't seen DTDs itch this time like they have before...

No - I catch them in a pint of water so I can see the progree of teh treatment. My numbers are approximate guesses!!!!

It is indeed.

Flamesparrow · 11/05/2007 23:23

I use nitty gritty and also sit and pick out with my nails... tis ok where she still has fine hair!

Very therapeutic, and the only time she will lay still with me for cuddles

SlightlyMadScarecrow · 11/05/2007 23:23

Oh and I have been seen waving my nitty gritty around the chool playground....I don't care if people know my DC have live its their DC that gave them to them in the first place...and if I can convince 1 person to buy one thats 119-149 little blighters that won't stand the chance to wander aimlessly round the clasroom looking for my DTDs gorgeous well cared for hair to reside in...

Sorry Flamesparrow - but an image of two chimps grooming eachother flashed by me then!

mummyto6 · 12/05/2007 16:10

I agree it's brill,it's the only thing that works.Did you know you can get it free from your gp.

Flamesparrow · 12/05/2007 17:25

i have always wondered if these combs work and didn't wanna fork out for it not to. Touch wood we haven't had headlice for a while now. But would be good to get incase they do.

SlightlyMadScarecrow · 12/05/2007 20:21

LoveHeart - it can be prescribed....making it free.

I brought mine off ebay - I had the money so thought I would save the NHS a bit of cash. Plus I felt a bit silly going in asking for a prescription for a comb. I wouldn't have hesitated tho if I didn't have the cash.

And I would say it is well worth being thorough the first couple of times you treat each infestation...to get as many out as possible on first and second comb...

Did kids hair last night with the bug blaster thing and only got a couple off, I seem to be winning atm (though they were clear after easter hols )

cheltenhamgal · 13/05/2007 15:12

for some reason the damn blighters seem to love my dds hair, I have tried all sorts, even not washing her hair for about three weeks. but they still come back. I get her clear in the school holidays and then as soon as she goes back to school within one day she is riddles again. The only thing that works at getting out the eggs and lice is the nittygritty comb so well worth the money. They also at present dont like the Lyclear sprayaway which isnt a chemical treatment, they literally fall out of her hair trying to get away from it

SlightlyMadSquonk · 13/05/2007 19:23

MrsWho - try the NittyGritty. As far as I know it is the only comb to get the eggs out (I have tried another type of comb 'designed to get eggs out' and it was crap).

If you get teh eggs out they don't hatch so you don't get any lice after the first check. Have combed again today - got nothing.

I would honsetly pay £20 for it if I had to buy it again - it really is worth it. Of corse I will never have to buy another one as it has a lifetime gurantee.

MrsWho · 13/05/2007 19:43

They don't actually seem to have much its just the odd one or two they have obviously picked up at school.I thought the bug one was ok actually and did get some egg casing things out but as they are fairly clear atmit seems fine.

Whta I do want is to get the bloody mother who doesn't check her little girl
