Help please, I've got headlice, what can I use to kill them, while breastfeeding. Don't give me any of your teatree nonsence, these are tough south london lice, they laugh at teatree oil, while dabbing it behind their ears.

have you tried teh comb and conditioner treatment?

TooTicky · 11/05/2007 22:47

Get a Nitty Gritty comb - they cost about £10 but worth it as they comb out eggs as well as lice. Use with conditioner as this immobilises them.

juliaplustwo · 11/05/2007 22:50

If I put anymore oil, oil based products or conditioners on my hair it will slide of my head down my back and on to the floor, at the moment it looks like somthing died on my head.

Definitely get the Nitty Gritty. You might be able to get it on prescription - maybe.

kidsrus · 11/05/2007 22:53

Plenty of brushing and combing damages the little devils and they die.
Give yourself a deep conditioning treatment and leave it on as long as you like just comb with nit comb during the time and repeat at least twice a week for the next month.

Piffle · 11/05/2007 22:54

darling you know it makes sense
GI Jane your hair
No side effects on your babyASode from that they will not recognise you or might call you Dad...
Well combing and conditioner worked on Hampshire Lice
using striaghteners and dying your hair can also work

kidsrus · 11/05/2007 22:55

sorry just read your last post use neat shampoo on your hair to remove the oil first.

SlightlyMadScarecrow · 11/05/2007 22:56

I vouch for Nitty Gritty. Wash and put plenty of conditioner on, comb thoroughly then rinse. It really does get rid of eggs so they little blighters don't hatch. I have just treated DTDs. Took a total of 6 adult lice out 10 days ago and since then I have only got 1 louse nymph. The rest (probably 100+) have come out as unhatched eggs. Stops the itching too as there are (virtually) no live lice to crawl around and feed.

You should still comb every 3-4 days for 2 weeks as you want to be sure you catch any lice that do hatch before they can lay more eggs.

juliaplustwo · 11/05/2007 23:04

can't I use some sort treatment, what about the one advertised on telly at the moment Headrin or the one on the home page on here Lyclear. I've had them to a greater or lesser degree since the end of Feb, dd birthday party, I can get them out of everybody elses hair but not my own. I've been combing for months it's driving me mad, I have alot of hair, and every time I think I've cracked it and stop combing, they come back, i must always miss one or two

TooTicky · 11/05/2007 23:08

I think most chemists sell them.

SlightlyMadScarecrow · 11/05/2007 23:11

\lin{http://www.nittygritty.co.uk/ng/index.jsp\scroll downt he page} and put postcode in for nearest stockist - beware it won't accept a space in middle of postcode. Althernatively you can get them on ebay.

JackieNo · 11/05/2007 23:11

(or online if you can't find it in a chemist, but obviously you'd have to wait a bit longer to get it.)

SlightlyMadScarecrow · 11/05/2007 23:11

Nitty Gritty homepage

juliaplustwo · 11/05/2007 23:14

I'll give it a couple of weeks' if it dosn't work i'll be back. Look out for post that say, oh no I've just lost my mind and shaved my head.

PMSL

Problem with chemicals is they only treat the live lice...they don't deal with eggs (although I think that the lyclear spray away is advertised as treating eggs but I hav't checked)

juliaplustwo · 11/05/2007 23:24

you may well laugh, I am to blame for the last outbreak in dd class at school, I keep giving them back to her and she takes them to school, I can't comb her hair anymore often than i do, she holds towels over her head if she even sees a nit comb.

OP posts:
SlightlyMadScarecrow · 11/05/2007 23:25

Was PMSL at teh shaven head - not at your headlice problem...

Radge · 11/05/2007 23:28

Hedrin. Not nasty. Totally effective.

juliaplustwo · 11/05/2007 23:31

Not to mention the fact that I badly need a hair cut, but you can't go to hairdressers with nits can you? Oh the shame...

OP posts:
juliaplustwo · 11/05/2007 23:52

can you use hedrin while breastfeeding, well I do't mean at the same time now that would be a feat of multitasking. A product I my sister gave me said not to use if pregnant or breastfeeding.

OP posts:
kidsrus · 12/05/2007 00:42

I see you are doing your best don't forget to change the bedding too as they can live off the head for a week i believe.
And make sure the whole family treat too.
You will succeed don't give up
