I'm due in next few weeks to get my gall bladder removed.
At present I am eating low fat diet and fingers crossed so far have been ok since monday, have started a whole different thread on this.
What I want to know on here is, anyone who's had this - how was the recovery. Did you need much support or did you manage to battle on.
Hoping for key hole but been told by Dr it all depends.
I have a DS 3.5 yrs who goes to nursery in afternoon and a 7mth DD.
I do have my mum but she's not too well (early onset demntia)and though would help finds some new things tricky.
My MIL is nearby but is very busy though prob would help if can fit me in.
DH can take some holidays but we don't want to use to many.
So how bad was it. Can I manage after few days?

Hi I had keyhole when ds was 1 and dd 5, in and out in 48hours and straight back to the school run. I did feel a bit washed out for about a week but nothing major. Good luck

Thanks Dr had made out major rest needed after. I think when you're a mum you manage.
How are you now? Did you get any side effects.

I think it would be different if you had to have an open procedure, Absolutely fine now don't even think about it. Out of interest did you have any morning sickness or have a section as there is supposed to be a link between those and gall bladder problems.

Hi Babyramone - I had gall bladder removed via keyhole surgery in Germany 5 years ago and it was pretty much fine. I stayed in hospital for 4 nights, although the forces pay them as they would for private patients so the longer we were there, the more they got paid so I suspect that was the reason. However, it did take me until the 4th day to feel well enough to walk upright and not be in too much pain. I think I felt dreadful from the anaethetic too which didn't help, plus the fact I was knackered from not having my german dictionary with me and having to 'chat' to woman next to me! They always say they might have to change to conventional method of removal should things go wrong or not be as easy as they hoped but mine was very stright forward. I had 15 stones and wish I'd asked to keep them!!! I felt like I'd left something at the hospital once I left!
As to recovery, I came out hospital on the Friday night and my parents were over on the Saturday and I had my stitches out the next monday, which I felt a bit tired. We walked around a large town that week and I had to keep sitting down and just felt sore (a bit like getting over a c-section but not quite as bad).
In the UK though, I think they send you out the same day if they can and let you recover at home so you'd still need someone to look after you for a couple of days.
I had 4 holes made, tummy button, under breastbone, off centre of tummy and one for the drain at the side of my tummy. They all healed fine and you can hardly see them now.

I certainly wasn't up and doing school run in 48 hours but everyone is different and it also took me a very long time to recover from section so perhaps I just stay sore for a long time! Agree with major rest for at least a week though really - and you how up on health the germans are!

Yes had terrible morning sickness til 20 weeks with DD. Was nausous 24/7 and regulary sick. kept getting sent home from work and was on anti-emetic.
Also have had couple bouts of unexplained vomiting after feeling little heartburny in lare pregnancy and after. Though this always coincided with heavy cold so put it down to swallowing mucus (BLUERG)
