Anyone else had chicken pox complications involving chest?

Dd2 had had chicken pox for over a week, scabbing over now and seemed to be getting better, but she's now got a really awful cough and wheeze, has been struggling with her breathing, really crackly noises on her chest, and coughing fits that go on for hours in the night.

Today the dr said it could be the start of a respiratory complication of chicken pox, and has given her antibiotics and says to keep a close eye. This morning she's been getting steadily worse - really floppy and miserable and her breathing sounds awful.

Has anyone else experienced this? I hate breathing things as having asthma myself i panic hearing her struggle.

If she is worse and floopy then i'd take her to A&E.

I've got no car and am 25 miles from hospital with no public transport, and dont' feel that she's bad enough yet, but will def call dr again if she doesn't sound any better this afternoon - its so hard to know what to do, dr would prob just say to let the antibiotics work wouldn't he? oOOhh i hate this am i being neurotic or should i do something feeling!

Had a similar problem once when my toddler had a bad cold. He also went floppy so we rang NHS Direct on 0845 4647 and they told us to go straight to A&E. Suggest ringing them - they will call you back quickly as it is a child and they can arrange an ambulance for you if necessary. Good Luck!

Boco - there is a type of pneumonia I think related to cp. This is what they worry about if a mum who is about to deliver gets cp as it can be very risky for baby.

Call them if you're worried.

She's had a good sleep and perked up now, eating a sandwich so i think she's feeling a bit better. Hopefully the antibiotics will start working.

You're right, it is a type of pneumonia that's linked to chicken pox - atm its just a chest infection so hopefully we've caught it in time

Thanks
