WWYD undergo surgery when i have no symptoms?

I had a ct scan done as i was experiencing double vision in one eye, they incidentally found my sinus was blocked. Neither the ENT guy, nor the eye specialists nor a gp think the blocked sinus can cause the double vision. However, the ENT consultant wants to operate to drain the sinus, but this is a general anaesthetic and carries elements of risk. I have no sinus related symptoms, no pain/ headaches etc. In fact the ENT guy couldn't believe i had no symptoms from looking at my scan, he would have expected me to be presenting with some.
So, WWYD, have the surgery as that is what the ENT recommends, or follow a 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' approach?
I have another appointment soon to discuss this further as i couldn't make my decision on the first appointment as it was such an unexpected outcome.

I would want to know why they think surgery is needed and if it was not to go ahead what the risks of leaving things are. Is it safe to take a wait and see approach and if things become symptomatic then proceed, or is there a risk of say a spreading infection despite no symptoms in which case the surgery probably makes sense earlier. I think the person to help you here is the consultant though who knows why he has recommended surgery and can give you the whole set of info.

Thank you for your reply, when i asked why he wanted to operate last time, all he said, was that because it was only on one side, it gave him cause for concern. I think i was so surprised by the turn the conversation had taken, i didn't really pursue the line of exactly why he wanted to operate and what would happen if we left it. He seemed very keen...
I think you're right though, i will have to be more prepared this time to find out what he fears might happen if we take a wait and see approach.
