Endometriosis help:(

ar321 · 05/04/2018 13:17

went to my doctors today to finally be diagnosed with endometriosis, been having consistent pain for the last month in my ovaries, but I put it down to the tablets that I've been put on, isotretinion, for my acne.
I've been having pain for a while now while having sex, but I just ignored it, thinking it was just an ache from a recent period.
I'm so worried, I've been reading on the internet all about infertility etc.
I'm only 20! what's everybody's experiences with Endo?!
What happens after you've been diagnosed with it? I'm worried sickSad

Sorry to hear this... have you been referred to a gynaecologist? The only accurate way to diagnose endo is via a laparoscopy... although my gynae was able to make a guess via an internal examination. He followed up with an op to both diagnose and treat it.

If you have endo, you have a few options re treatment - hormonal contraceptives, surgical removal being the most common for your age.

The charity Endometriosis UK has a really good website and a patient forum hosted on the Health Unlocked app. Both worth a visit - much more helpful than I am!

Take care x

I agree endometreosis uk is helpful and it is good to research questions to ask the specialist. A laparoscopy is the only way to confirm the endo and see its extent. Until you have surgery it is impossible to know the affect on fertility some people have a lot of pain with a small ammount of symptoms, others can have a few symptoms with lots of disease.

Has your dr talked to you about next steps? You will likely be refferred to a specialist and offered either hormonal treatment such as a coil or back-to-back taking the pill or you will be offered a keywhole opp to diagnose and treat.

i'm already on the pill, and have been for the past 5/6 years, i've already had the implant and that didn't work out well for me.
do you know how long it takes to see the gynaecologist after being referred by the doctor?
in so much pain, been wanting to go a & e recently, as the codeine just isn't helping one bit, but don't know what they'll do at a&e to help me?

Sorry to hear your pain is difficult to mannage. I have been in A&E once with undiagnosed endo ppain and once after a diagnosis. Both times they admitted me. While I think this was a concern that it was an appendicitis the IV paracetamol, enforced rest and regular painkillers were helpful.

It is difficult to know how long your referral will take as it is different in diferent areas. You are likely to wait a few weeks for an appointment and then the consultant may well put you on his list for surgery.
