Slippers for plantar fasciitis and back pain

I’m looking to replace my FitFlops for indoor use. I have lower back issues and tend to get plantar fasciitis. The FitFlops work well when they’re new but as they get looser, they support less well. A “slider” style (or are they called mules?) might work better and an adjustable strap would be good; they’d preferably be made from a non fluffy material. I need to be able to wear them with socks.

I’ve looked online and have considered Vionic relax , Birkenstock and Telic but it’s a bit confusing!

Thanks, I’ll look into the book, though I need a pair of indoor slippers that I can slip on and off easily anyway since I don’t wear shoes indoors.

I have some Birkenstock Amsterdam felt clogs which are great. They've very much improved my heel pain.

madamedepoppadom · 05/04/2018 14:51

Would you consider getting a FitFlop style that aren't designed to be slippers, but would be just as comfortable? Something like these maybe? They look as if they would stay on well and not stretch like more open ones might.

BeyondThePage · 05/04/2018 14:54

I use the old stalwart of PF sufferers - crocs and socks... suuuuuuuch an attractive look - especially with PJs and dressing gown... Blush

Ontopofthesunset · 05/04/2018 15:02

I too am a Crocs 'n' Socks gal (though I do dispense with the socks in the summer).

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 05/04/2018 21:50

Madame thanks for that. I don’t have to have a “slipper” but I would ideally like something that I can put on/take off without touching them, for ease. However, the one you’ve linked do look very comfortable and also look ideal for wearing for walking. At a tempting price...
Beyond and Ontopof, I didn’t know crocs were ok for PF. Goes to show how much I know! Just the regular crocs with holes?

Crocs make my PF much worse, I can only wear them for very short spells now. I have Moshulu boot style slippers with a pair of Boots orthotics in, wear thrm with socks. They aren't slip-on, you need to run a finger round the back of the heel to get them on but pretty easy.

AlannaOfTrebond · 05/04/2018 22:22

Crocs too. The regular ones with holes. I can really feel the difference when I don't wear them.

LizzieMacQueen · 05/04/2018 22:27

I have been looking at Mahabis slippers after reading about them on another thread - I too suffer from PF and foot arthritis and I'm tempted by them even with the high price tag.

BeyondThePage · 06/04/2018 08:11

Yep - the regular old fashioned first type of crocs with the holes in.

Also, the best home treatment is to freeze a small bottle of water and roll it about under your foot where it hurts - using a lot of pressure, really shortens the length of any "attack".

LadyPenelope68 · 06/04/2018 08:21

Definitely Crocs, I wear these at home all the time for my plantar fasciitis - they are heaven for sore plantar feet.

thesunwillout · 06/04/2018 08:25

Also, I think you can get crocs that don't have holes in ?

hugoagogo · 06/04/2018 08:27

Crocs here too

brownelephant · 06/04/2018 08:28

birkenstock
you need to try them so you get the right width/length for the arch support to be in the right place.

BrownTurkey · 06/04/2018 08:30

I get plantar every time I start using mule type slippers. I think they make me hold my feet a certain way. I use slipper socks instead.

apostropheuse · 06/04/2018 09:11

I have osteoarthritis in my feet and intermittently get plantar fasciitis. I wear skechers slippers, which help a lot. They have a firm rubber sole but are lined with memory foam (mule type). Well worth the £40.

Notso · 06/04/2018 09:19

I find some types of Birkenstocks and Fitflops really aggravate it. As slippers I use Ugg boots most of the year which seem to help but I don't they meet your criteria.

SureIusedtobetaller · 06/04/2018 09:22

I use a pair of Clarks canvas summer shoes (got them in the sale).
Most of the support of shoes but I keep them for indoors. Verrrrry attractive mind you...

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 06/04/2018 09:52

I don’t care how they look! Great suggestions here. It’s interesting about the Uggs as I have heard they were designed to be used as slippers to keep your feet warm and not as you see most people wearing them, ie outside and all the time.

I can't wear Birkenstock anymore due to foot issues - SadSad

I've moved onto Wolkys. Bit more expensive but I love them.

These are my house "slippers":

They have lots of colours and options.
