Bugger - what are the chances of getting chicken pox twice?

DD had chicken pox three years ago. yesterday found two spots on her chest and shoulder, today three more on her trunk.

Look suspiciously like the pox - I know someone who said their child had it twice, but I thought it was very rare?

What else could it be? She's not scratching - yet!

Not as rare as people think. I've given up counting how many times I have had it.

jenkel · 10/05/2007 19:13

I was told by my gp that if you have had it before 1, they there is a good chance that you will get it again

ThatBeetroot · 10/05/2007 19:29

yes yes - I knew I knew but couldn't remember iykwim - hello

Fubsy · 10/05/2007 19:30

Oh bum.

its DD's birthday on Monday (fortunately she's already had her party), she's got a party to go to on saturday, and work have just announced new "crisis" leave measures which means i'll have to take annual leave.

And we've just got new gerbils. can they catch it?

October (aka D) which famous film star? You lost me there!

DS has had the chickenpox three times..... each time slightly milder.

nickytwotimes · 10/05/2007 19:46

gerbils can't catch the pox. it is possible to be really unlucky like me and have had chicken pox several times but have no immunity - v. annoying!! more likely scenario is the first time mild / second time bad case below.
bummer though...

Fubsy · 10/05/2007 20:00

Good about the gerbils though!

my ds 16 months has had it twice-mildly both times and gp said he could get it again

nickytwotimes · 10/05/2007 20:03

fubsy, it might not be the pox????????

glitterfairy · 10/05/2007 20:10

My dd has just had it again.

Fubsy · 10/05/2007 20:24

If there are any more spots in the morning i'll phone the doc and ask them. She seems well enough fortunately.

Fubsy - ta daaahhhhh. This one.

SoMuchToBits · 10/05/2007 21:04

I have had it twice - once at 7 months, and again when I was 25. Second time was very mild though - I just felt a bit feverish one night then came out in the spots. Not all over me, but worst ones were on the soles of my feet - it itched when I walked!

My MIL has also had it twice.

Sumsey · 10/05/2007 21:21

ive had it twice too a very mild case when i was a baby and then again at 12 (really bad with measeles at the same time!!)

GreebosWhiskers · 10/05/2007 21:33

My dd had it twice but only a few months apart - first time very mild 2nd time really bad.
dh has a niece who had it bad when she was small then got it really bad again when she was mid-twenties & about 6 weeks pg but thankfully the baby was okay.

missgriss · 10/05/2007 23:28

Ds has had it twice. First time very mild, second time covered from head to toe.

That was a very pleasant month in our house. DD (who was only 5 months at the time) caught it really bad too and lo and behold, I caught it (I'd never had it before). I'd never felt more like weeping

Fubsy · 11/05/2007 19:51

Thanks everyone! The good news is that the Doc doesnt think it is chicken pox, but she doesnt know what it is. I think its probably some sort of insect bite (better frontline the cats!)

At least she can go to the birthday party now
