Ear suction (private)

Does anyone know if this can be done privately? My dc suffers a lot with wax in his ear due to a narrow ear canal.

Yes it can but don't know if they will do under 18.

Put oil in his ears there’s a reason the nhs try to avoid it these days.

I've had mine done at the Nuffield, can't remember how much but it was worth every penny.

I used the clean ear clinic, not sure if they do children though.

DH had his done at a local GP surgery - suction is way less likely to perforate the ear drum than syringing, I believe.

He has always suffered with wax build ups, despite olive oil applications etc. Suction was an absolute revelation and he would definitely do it again.

He let me go in and watch . . . it was the highlight of our 20 year marriage Grin

Cost about £70.

Your GP can refer your DC to have this at a local ENT unit - I think that this also includes a hearing test afterwards, so it's probably more extensive than a private clinic would be.

Some Specsavers branches do it. I found a non-Specsavers clinic within travelling distance for my 13 yr old dd but when I checked if they’d do it in view of her age, they said they wouldn’t treat minors.

I need to get back on it now Easter is over!

Thanks all, my ds has had it done before on the NHS but the GP are reluctant to keep referring. Of course we do the olive oil drops but when wax is really impacted it does not always unblock.

I think DS will need it again at some point, I wonder if his GP won't want to refer him again 🤔.
