Nasal polyps

Hi everyone
I am a mumsnetter - normally on the infertility boards but I just wanted a bit of advice. A couple of years ago I had a heavy cold and lost my sense of taste and smell. After a long drawn out battle with medical professionals who kept dismissing me I was eventually scanned and found to have nasal polyps and I was given an operation with no guarantee that it would cure me. For a few weeks after the operation I had my taste and smell back again and my follow up appointments were showing the polyps had been removed. Also when I was having my operation they found an infection in my sinuses for which I was given antibiotics. Anyway my taste and smell have gone again, been gone for nearly a year, the operation was in November 2016. I recently had bronchitis for which I was given steroids and my taste and smell returned for a couple of weeks meaning, I think, that permanent damage has not been done.
I just wondered if anyone knew of anything I could try? I need to go back through my gp so that will be a drawn out battle again. When I go for a run my smell and taste come back for about 10 mins then it is gone again. Being without taste and smell is utterly miserable, I can't enjoy food, perfume, air freshener, I'm constantly cleaning as I am worried the house is dirty and I have given my family off food, before. If there was a gas leak I would not smell it. It is miserable. Sorry for the long story but I just wondered if anyone could help?

I have something similar - just been diagnosed today with something with a catchy title - 'chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps and co-existing asthma'. To do with immune system reacting to a perceived threat so lungs and nose both react. Am treating with steroids. Could it be something similar? I must confess I went private as have had no luck with GPs over last 15 years. Apparently it's most commonly found in women between late 20s and middle age.
