Rectocele surgery recovery (tmi warning)

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had rectocele repair surgery? If so, can you please share your experiences of recovery with me? I'm 6 days post-op for a straightforward repair, and have spent most of the last week laying flat in bed not wanting to jeopardise the recovery process. The bleeding stopped after just 3 days. But (tmi, sorry) I've just had diahorrea and when I wiped the surgery area, there was some fresh blood. About 4cm x 2cm on the tissue paper. I've put a towel back in and gone back to laying flat in bed, having a few more stinging pains than I was before but not constantly, just a few. Can anyone offer any reassurance based on their own experiences? I'm freaking the funk out that I've messed things up down there. Thanks in advance.

Hi. I’m in the same boat you were in. How did this turn out for you?

Hi, I just had a partial hysterectomy, a sling for my bladder and recticile repairs done. I am 13 days post op and yet, I am still in lots of pain and I can’t sit. I also had a uti on day 8 and a yiest infection on day 10, I’m so sad and discouraged. I have lots of stitches on my perineum and on. Did anyone else had such hard time recuperating? My doctor says everything looks like it’s supposed to. Any one has any thoughts or encouragement? Thanks

Hi @Ladynpm I have gynae problems but haven't had surgery. There's a great facebook group called FPOPS UK. There are lots of women there who may be able to help you too. Hope someone answers here.

@Ladynpm, it's likely the infection that has made things sore. Once that's gone, you will hopefully start feeling more comfortable.
If you finish the ABs and are still sore, definitely see your GP.
Before that, if your symptoms ramp up see the GP anyway.

Oh, and make sure you are taking pain relief when it's due. Don't wait until it gets bad. If you're not taking laxatives in any form, start now.

I had a yeast infection after my surgery and it was very painful. Once you’re infection free you will start to feel a lot better but don’t lose heart if it take a while. Everyone is different. I felt a lot better after 5 weeks but it takes longer for some people, less for others. You will get there. I agree with the PP - keep on top of your pain relief, don’t wait to feel pain before you take it.

That’s so very encouraging! My infection is slowly getting better and I’m stating to feel less swollen. I appreciate all of your comments so much. Blessings 🙏
