Sudden severe pelvic pain that feels like labour pains

An hour ago I suddenly had severe cramping in lower pelvis as if I was about to give birth. Except I'm not pregnant.

I was bowled over writhering on the floor in pain and called 999. I am waiting in a&e at the moment. Pain has subsided and bearable after taking paracetamol.

That sudden and excruciating pain was frightening and I haven't experienced anything like it. I felt like I was going to haemmorage but nothing.

I've missed a few periods recently (not sure of the reason) and have a pap smear scheduled for next week.

Anyone sufferered similar?

It’s terrifying. I’ve been in ambulances on several occasions with severe pelvic pain (usually when I’d pass out and someone would call one, before I was diagnosed with endometriosis and my pain was managed). Some paramedics were so incredibly rude to me, asking me why I didn’t get the bus (err... I can’t stand up obviously) etc. This was about 15 years ago though and at least they sent them.

The only time I’ve had to call one since was when one of my babies became floppy and unresponsive - as you’d expect they were there very quickly for that, thank goodness.

I know they’re under ridiculous pressure but if a child calls about their Mum lying on the floor screaming in agony you’d think they’d send someone.

Could it be ovulation pains? Was the pain to one side? As I got older, my ovulation pains (Mittelschmerz) suddenly appeared and would be severe for about an hour, sometimes I'd have to lie down and get painkillers and a hot water bottle. Maybe the follicles get more fluid in them and swell up more, not sure.
Mark the date on your calendar and keep an eye on your dates and see does it happen again next cycle. It wouldn't be so scary if you knew what it was and that it would go away in an hour or so.

I've had a ruptured ovarian cyst in the past, went to GP with severe pain on one side, it was relentless. He examined my abdomen and sent me to hospital straight away. It ruptured while I was in hospital (excruciating pain) but I needed emergency surgery as I went downhill fast after that. Turned out I had internal haemorrhaging and needed 4 units of blood. Definitely ask you GP for a fast referral.
