Psoriasis- back of neck

Soyalatteforme · 01/04/2018 11:14

I'm posting in the home someone can direct me to something which will soothe the itching I get with the psoriasis on the back of my neck.

I've had several steroid creams prescribed but none seem to lessen the symptoms. I tried E45 yesterday and that made it worse 😢 It's spreading down onto my back and shoulders now.

I have patches elsewhere on my body but they don't itch like my neck does. It's agony and keeping me awake now.

Any advice?

The only thing that works for me is Dovobet.

For me it's the patches on my shins that cause the most pain and itching. They get so red and sore.
It's a horrible condition to have.
Go back to your doctor. Have you had a referral to the Skin Hospital? I had light treatment a while back and it really helped

Thanks Solly. I will read up about Dovobet and have a chat with my doctor. I'm so down about it now. It just came on about 6 months ago with no warning, and now it's rampant. I've read about light treatment but when I mentioned to GP he didn't respond positively and jus suggested going through the variety of creams to find one that works for me.

Your doctor should refer you to the Skin Hospital. GPs can't recommend the light treatment, it has to be a consultant. I am quite severely afflicted all over but have only had one course of the light treatment. This is because there is a limit on the number of treatments you can have over a life time. So I will save it for when it is more severe than usual.
Unfortunately psoriasis can flare at any time, it's usually triggered by a stressful event.
Mine started when I was about 30. Triggered by the stress of a major relationship break up. It is a horrible condition and it can spread into the joints as well, mine has. The best prevention is to try and alleviate stress or manage it.

Unfortunately the weaker steroid creams don't touch psoriasis.

Keep going back to your doctor. I hope something helps you. I know what it's like itching and being sore all the time, not to mention the impact on my self esteem because it looks horrible, and I'm single.

Sorry to hear how severely you're suffering from it. It's so depressing.

I feel so self conscious when I'm swimming or if I wear my hair up. Every minute seems to be affected by worrying about it or feeling the need to scratch it.

I agree that the stress has brought it on. Work is relentlessly stressful at the moment and I had a bereavement just before it came on. I had thought I could manage with exercise, but swimming and yoga, which seem to calm me, exacerbate my symptoms. Not sure where to go from here with stress management.

Thanks for your responses and sorry you're suffering so much.
