Successful rectopexy?

Hi girls, I’m new on the forum, 8 years ago I had a horrible delivery of my only kid which left me with my uterus and bladder outside. I had to have an hysterectomy and bladder lifting.
One year ago I began with many issues in the rectal area, incomplete defecation, pain, heavyness, ball feeling... I asked several colorectal surgeons, some of them recomended nothing others recomended the STARR procedure and most of them told me that the gold standard for what I had (internal rectal prolapse, rectocele and enterocele) was the ventral rectopexy.
I was so bad and depressed that 10 days ago I went for it although they told me that a mesh would be needed if I wanted the surgery to last.
The rectopexy went well, laparoscopically (4 holes in the tummy), I had no pain, 3 days in hospital... But I feel that everything is the same as before the op. My anus was a bit outside and it’s still in the same place. I still feel presure and like a ball in my rectum. I dont know if I still have incomplete defecation because I have to take lots of Magnesia to go to the bathroom and its almost liquid.
On my 7 day post op appointment, I told the surgeon crying that I was feeling as bad as before the op and after checking everything was ok, he told me that it was only 7 days, he said that I have to wait and be patient because I would begin to tell the benefits of the op in some months because the mesh has to integrate into my muscles tissues. I told him I could notice the same lump I could touch before the op and he said that the lump were the stitches which produced inflamation.
I dont know what to think...
Anybody here who has undergone a rectopexy? Is the surgeon deceiving me? Its like he has pulled up very little with no tension... but he is one of the best in the field...
Thanks girls, hope there’s someone there that can help me...

You poor thing, that's so much to go through. I think it's possible that the lump you can feel is scar tissue, maybe?

I would recommend that you keep a daily diary of symptoms and their severity, do all your recommended exercises, keep all your follow up appointments and keep discussing the issues you feel are important with your consultant.

Finally, (you know this bit, right?) you cannot expect a return to how your body was pre-birth. But hopefully the result will help you to have a great quality of life. Good luck.

Hi Mollyhuacha thanks a lot for answering!

The doctor said the lump was produced by the stitches, but I had the same lump in the same place before the op, curious... I wonder if during the surgery they only look at the tummy/camera/insides, I think they should look at your bottom also in order to see how it responds to what they are doing...

I think it’s a good idea to write a diary of symptoms, ill do it for my next app 2 months post op.

Yes of course I know that child birth changes your body for ever and it’s impossible to come back, I only hoped to have a relieve of my simptoms. I’ll be back to physio next week and if I can begin with the exercises I’ll do it.

Hugs!!!!!Wink
