Someone close to me has just begun chemo for breast cancer and I'm looking for ideas of little gifts that will help cheer her up or just be genuinely useful. So far I've looked into aluminium free deodorant but good brand recommendations would be appreciated, I've also heard the lush shampoo bar is good for encouraging hair regrowth. Any ideas welcome!

A good lip balm like Nuxe reve de miele in the pot
A good heavy duty hand cream
Some gentle face wipes
If you want to stretch the boat out an eyebrow pencil and a cream lip/cheek combo to help perk her up
Suggestions- Stila, Rosie for Autograph, Bobbi Brown. There’s a brand called RMS Which is now being stocked in SpaceNK but it is pricey

Unless you know for certain that aluminium deodorant is something she would be interested in then please don't give that as a gift. I'd be really pissed off as there is no good evidence of aluminium in deodorant causing cancer.

Hand cream is definitely a good bet as chemo really dries the skin. Nothing too strongly scented in case she suffers from nausea. Maybe a shawl/blanket. Cosy socks. Colouring books/magazines/puzzle books/DVDs depending what she is interested in.

I was obsessed with Lotus caramelised biscuits when I first had chemo as they really helped with the nausea.

Do you live nearby? The best "gift" I've had is people visiting or meeting me for coffee :)

My mum had the hemp handcream from the body shop, it was recommended to her by her nurses.
She also drank liquorice tea, its meant to have some helpful properties.
Ginger tea may help with nausea.
Nice head scarf if she looses her hair
Bio oil for any scars
Diary/notebook to just write down any thoughts or worries
Magazines to take her mind off things

Yes, I think you should avoid the aluminium free deodorant too. I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and at the moment am going through all of the things I could have done to avoid getting it, and of course aluminium containing deodorant is on my list. If someone bought me some, even if I had mentioned it, I think I would find it a bit upsetting. I think probably leave that to her to look into for herself.

You sound like a lovely friend though Smile unfortunately I don't have many suggestions as the chemo I am about to undertake is my first experience with it ever! Sad People have bought me books, a blanket, scarf, sweets, hand cream, toiletries for sensitive skin which have all been very lovely though!
