my dd, 18 months has a red sore patch which i thought was nappy rash, but as she has never had it before, i asked a ex- nurse who i know to have a look and she says it might be something to do with thrush. the sore part is mostly on the outer vagina lips (for want of a better word) and a little bit on the tops of her thigh. it is really red and a bit bumpy, and does sometimes have a white bloom on it but i thought this was just the residue of the zinc and castor oil cream i have been using. i tried thet meatnium nappy rash cream but it didnt seem to touch it. do i have to see a health visitor to get it looked at or can i just describe the rash to a chemist, and if it is thrush can i get something over the counter or does it have to be prescribed? anu advice would be appreciated, thank you.

You'd be best to get a proper diagnosis from a GP or health visitor because unless you know what you are dealing with, you can't treat it effectively.

it sounds like thrush to me. If you close your eyes and rub your fingers over it, if it feels bumpy, it's thrush.

You can get canestan over the counter which will clear it up really quickly, but check with the pharmacist as they do it in different strengths.

yes it does feel bumpy. what causes it? nothing has changed in her routine but she has had a couple of monor things wrong with her. can it be caused by just not feeling on top of the world?

can be through being under the weather - can be because the weather's got a bit warmer and she's hot and sweaty there.

Ask the pharmacist for canestan suitable for a baby and if you don't see a difference in a day or two, then I'm wrong and it's not thrush.

Good luck

i have asked for canestan cream for her before. although for a different problem. she had a sore patch on the back of her knee, and i spoke to the doctor over the phone, and she said to use that on it, so i went to get some and because my dd is under 10 years, they wouldnt let me have any. that cleared up on its own.
