Hi all. My DD who is 22 months is finally having her tonsils out next month. we ended up in hospital again because they made her so ill and she was on iv antibiotics for 3 days. whilst there we saw a consultant who agreed that they had to come out as she suffers from sleep apneia and often can't swallow so chokes. they are taking them out next month and i'm so nervous as they have told us that she is very young to have this done and that normally they don't touch them until the child is 4. does anyone know of a child having it done at this age?

Iam sorry I have nothing to offer experience wise, just wanted to say good luck for your tiny one and that she has been so poorly with her tonsils.

{{{hugs}}}

thanks feelingoldngrey. she's had it rough so it will be good to see the back of them. her first episode of it was when she was 2 months and since then she gets it on average once a month. she has been hospitalised 3 times. i'm very scared and worried how she will cope. i know there are lots of children that have to deal with far worse but it still freaks me out.

Cannot really offer advice but ds was 4 when he had hi out last year, it wasn't pleasant for him and i hope your dd will be ok. [hugs]

leander - i heard that they have to eat before they are allowed to leave the hospital. how the hell am i going to get a 22 month old to eat if she doens't want to. how did you cope with this? have you noticed a difference in you ds since hes had them out?

My dd had her taken out when she was about 5yrs.They do like to see them eat before letting them go home.My dd was really poorly after the op but i'm so glad she had it done.My niece had her out when she was younger than my dd and she was fine afterwards,you wouldn't of known she had had a op.She was jumping all over the place.Try not to worry they will look after your dd.

My ds LOVES his food and the first thing he said after having the op was "I need something to eat" he had a tuna sandwich which i was holding and i nearly lost my fingers He ate ok in hospital he seemed to struggle alot more once we got home.They will probably just give tour dd a slice of toast or some cereal and as long as she eats some they will let her home.I have also heard that the younger they are the better they cope so lets just hope this is true.I am sure she will be ok.Is someone going to be with you?I couldn't go when they put him to sleep i just couldn't do it dh had to go in whilst I was sobbing in the corridoor

Sorry forgot to say ds only had his out because he needed to have his adenoids removed and they dont do adenoids without taking the tonsils aswell. He had enlarged adenoids and tonsils which caused terrible snoring which sometimes woke him also he was developing sleep apnoea.

My dss had his out after years of problems ,his tonsils were joint together making it hard for him to eat solid food, he was 6/7 when he had his out, he was so thin/ill looking before he went in, within 2 weeks of having them out he was eating evrything and looking healthy.
