Vitamin D

As part of a number of tests I had done after recurrent miscarriage I just received my vitamin D results and I'm confused.

A doctor called me this morning and said my result was borderline at 31.

A couple of hours later I got a text from my surgery saying to call about an abnormal result. I did and it was referring to the vitamin D again where they said I needed to speak to a pharmacist and scheduled a phone call appointment.

I needed a print out of my result to give to a consultant so popped into the surgery to collect it and it says:

Serum Total 25-OH vit D level - 04. Abnormal.

Does this mean my level is 4? The doc said it was 31 but that number isn't mentioned at all on this print out.

Not sure - can you ask a pharmacist or the consultant?

Could it be that you are in category 4 on a scale along the following lines:

01: Excess
02: Optimal
03: Adequate
04: Abnormal

???

Thanks for the reply.

That's what I was wondering but then I thought it strange that on the print out the actual result isn't listed as there are no other numbers on it.

Just spoke to the pharmacist the serum level is 31 so she doesn't know what's happened with the print out. She said I need to take 1000mg twice a day for a month then switch to 1000mg once a day and it's a borderline result.

Your levels won't come up very fast with that level of supplementation.

I was a lot lower only 16, but they put me on 10,000 a day for 2 weeks. I've been taking 3000 a day ever since and boy do I notice if I stop. It really makes a big difference to your energy levels.

Thanks @MigGril that's good to know I might take double for the first few weeks then.
