So after yours how much discomfort were you in? I'm worried that it will cause Cramping and driving home/that evening not possible...

Blimey... ok my experience of ablation and sterilisation was BAD hence my question Sad

I was in no discomfort at all. No GA or local. I did have a reaction afterwards so they had to keep me in for a couple of hours but it wasn't pain. I had no cramping and caught a train home. TBH the actual procedure was less painful than a smear. A lot depends on the expertise of the person doing it. I advise not having a GA because you can then tell them if it's hurting etc and they are more gentle as you are awake!

First of all let me say I’m the biggest worrier IN THE WORLD and also have health anxiety. My hysteroscopy was nothing to worry about, no pain at all. The consultant performing it was lovely, so too were the nurses and they let my dh come in too. I had no sedation, nothing. I had a few polyps removed and one that was too large to remove there. I had that removed on a day case where I was meant to have an ablation too but I chickened out because I wanted it under a local and they would only perform it under a GA, which terrifies me. But I really need the ablation, was it bad op?

RandomMess · 25/03/2018 18:20

I had ablation and my tubes clipped at the same time so I don't know what caused everything to spasm/cramp - was supposed to be 6 hour discharge I was still in recovery on a morphine pump at that point.

No regrets though at having it done I got my life back just continually spotting/bleeding now 7 years own probably just my age but they want to check...

An ablation is surely far more invasive- they burn off the lining don't they?

The scope for a hysteroscopy is tiny. It's in and out really quickly in most women.

TERFragetteCity · 25/03/2018 18:26

I was in agony, and had to spend the rest of the morning recovering - then drove home, and had to spend the rest of the day and weekend recovering.

Make sure you take good painkillers before you go in, with any luck you will be ok, but be prepared for some recovery time if not.

EnlightenedOwl · 25/03/2018 18:26

I had this done and polyp removal under general anaesthetic. Was given painkiller along with anaesthetic. Next day and day after bit of discomfort nothing dramatic and light bleeding for about 2 days.

RandomMess · 25/03/2018 18:27

It's more whether my body will get pissed off and spasm... it's something I've been hospitalised with before caused by stress!

I guess I'll just assume I may not be able to drive that evening and have alternate plans in place.

I had one under GA and the op itself was fine, I couldn't drive afterwards so DP drove me home. Main problem was first period afterwards was brutal, worst I've ever had. I then developed an infection which turned into Sepsis which required emergency hospital admission and was life threatening! On the bright side my biopsy on the polyps was clear so probably worth doing but I'm never having non-emergency surgery again!

Twoweekcruise · 25/03/2018 18:28

It may have been the sterilisation which caused the discomfort, I’ve two friends who have had that done and both found it was painful. You’ll be fine with the hysteroscopy.

EnlightenedOwl · 25/03/2018 18:30

My biopsy was clear too so that was a relief.

Ah bugger think I'm leaning towards sedation after all Blush

MrsJayy · 25/03/2018 18:38

I was a bit shaky for about 10/15 minutes afterwards i had to have a seat to gather myself but I got the bus home and I had no cramping it does hurt take painkillers before you go.

RandomMess · 25/03/2018 18:39

Yeah will def take the bus rather than drive I guess!!

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 25/03/2018 18:39

I wasn't offered sedation tut if you are offered it take it.

witherwings · 25/03/2018 18:47

I was told sedation wasn’t necessary and mine was fine. It was uncomfortable when they blew the air in but otherwise it was fine. I had bleeding for a few days afterwards but no other problems.

witherwings · 25/03/2018 18:48

Forgot to say, I had mine in the afternoon, drove home, drove to school, took kids swimming in the next town. All fine

MrsJayy · 25/03/2018 18:55

I had mine 6 weeks after I was sterilised I wonder if it was still a bit tender but It was very painful

validusername1 · 25/03/2018 18:58

I had mine after second miscarriage and was absolutely fine. I get horrifically anxious at things like that but my consultant and two nurses who were in the room made me feel very comfortable. Was never told sedation was an option but it's really not needed anyway.
Slight discomfort and that was it, few cramps after but nothing that would make you bend over in agony and was back to running about after 2 year old within minutes of getting home.
It's not a big procedure at all.

raeray · 26/03/2018 02:31

I've had a couple and didn't have local or sedation or anything and I wasn't sore. The main bit I remember is the water trickling they used but certainly wasn't a painful experience.

Good luck OP, which ever route you go take care and do what's best for you Thanks
