Vaccinations - Pneumococcal "catch up" for babies/toddlers

DS is 14 months old and up to 13 months he had all the jabs that the NHS offer. At 13 months, we decided not to have the MMR, but to have single jabs (at Breakspear) and he has just had the measles jab.
When we were at Breakspear, they asked about his other jabs, particularly the pneumococcal. As part of the NHS catch up for those who were born before the introduction of this jab, DS had one jab for pneumococcal when he was 13 months and, at the time, I was told this was all he needed. Breakspear have told me that the maunfacturer recommends 2 doses of the pneumococcal jab for those aged 12-23 months and so I am wondering why the NHS do not plan to do this for DS - is it just lack of money and resources and should I pay privately to get it done? Has your DC had 2 doses of this jab having received the 1st dose after age 12 months? Any experiences appreciated.

Mine only had one, I thought that was all that was needed. Mine had their vax later, and the guidelines for most of them are different after a year. I wonder if the company are trying to get you to pay out unecessarily.

Thanks Kelly, I wondered that as well. I wondered also if it was different for different health authorities but yours seems to be the same as mine.

I paid privately for pneumo jab for Dd as her cousin died because of pneumoccocal meningitis, she had 2 doses.
I think it depends on age of child.

My GP is offering 2 furthur doses of the pneumococcal before my DS - 16months is 2. I wasn't sure if this is right as everyone else I have spoken to has only had one dose given to their child.

my 2 yr old had one dose when she was 22 months old

DD is 20 months - she had one dose last month. The Doc said that was all that was required.

Are there any guidelines for ths does anyone know? I'm reluctant to give DS anymore doses if thy aren't necessary

Sorry about your DD's cousin izzybiz. It does depend on age and I've put the web address of the guidelines from Breakspear below.

Breakspear gave me a copy of the manufacturer's instructions (Prevenar/Wyeth) and it says children aged 12-23 months (who haven't this jab before) should have 2 doses. I think I would feel OK about him having just one jab is he was nearly 2 like some of your LOs is not long after turning 1.

What I can't find are NHS guidelines for children of this age that apply nationally.
