So I'm waiting for an operation to remove my gallbladder after they found 'too many stones to count' following a scan a few months ago.
The consultant at kings said it could take up to 6 weeks..but I had 3 flare ups in as many hours last night, violent pain, vomiting and sweats. I had a flare up at 19.30 took myself to bed and got up at 21.00 for my night shift (as a Carer) and from 20.30-21.30 had the most violent attack, vomited on the floor of bathroom and felt really bad, almost on my knees in pain. I took some painkillers naproxen & paracetamol and rang work to say I can't come in. Half an hour later I was ringing work to say I felt fine...at 0300 the pain increased again going from a 'kicked on the stomach pain to full on i

Continued... increased full on flare up I ended up with a hot beanie wrapped around my stomach when my client slept..are there any sufferers out there? What do you take to stop the pain? Do you think I should treat this as a condition that is getting worse? I really can't handle the extreme pain and frequency that it's occurring at help please.

Poor you. I have had similar attacks. They are so painful. After one really bad one that lasted over a weekend I phoned 111 expecting to be told to go to my GP and they called an ambulance. Ended up being admitted with peritonitis. Only realised how serious it was when they started talking about operating. Don't want to scare you but I would go to A and E. I was told to go after every attack as you need blood tests to check liver levels etc. It also helps to push you up the waiting lists which are notoriously long for gallbladder surgery.

Sorry, just realised you asked about the pain. Your GP can prescribe pain relief but a lot of people I talked to didn't get on with codeine or tramadol. Buscapan and a scalding hot water bottle helped me. Really nothing is going to help until you have the gallbladder removed. Eating low fat def reduces the attacks though

Nogood thank you I'm fine today but will definitely take your advice regarding peritonitis as the flare ups are definitely more frequent and worse.

Sympathies - I had my gallbladder out a week ago after suffering with this for 6 months.

I second the recommendation of Buscopan - didn't always do the trick, but often put a stop to the more minor attacks. I found a bath to be the most effective pain relief in the mean time.

Food wise, what I ate (fatty or not) made a difference, but so did WHEN I ate. I tried to keep at least 3 hours between meals / snacks and not eat for at least 3 hours before going to bed / lying down.
