It's for an adult and needs to be not anti-histamine and one that doesn't make you feel drowsy. Does anyone know of one that meets these criteria and works please?

I use the wris bands which work perfectly for me, I think they sell them in most chemists.

onlyconnect · 23/03/2018 16:42

That's funny: I just dug mine out and put them on earlier.

Walkingthroughawall · 23/03/2018 17:13

Buccastem.

Whyiseveryonesoangry · 23/03/2018 17:24

Travel bands
herbal ginger based tablets
Both together seems to work for me.

onlyconnect · 24/03/2018 17:10

walkingthroughwall I've bought some. Do they make you drowsy? Just wondering if I can take them when I'm driving. I've stated to feel travel sick even when I'm driving.

dirtybadger · 24/03/2018 17:19

Drowsiness is a side effect of Buccastem.

dirtybadger · 24/03/2018 17:20

And in the UK Buccastem M is only licensed for nausea and sickness associated with migraine. Although if you already have them then that bit doesnt matter.

onlyconnect · 24/03/2018 17:25

Yes, I saw that dirtybadger. I do get migraines so will try them for that too but will try one when I next travel too.

Prochlorperazine has several indications, not just migraine (although I think Buccastem, which is the same drug, just with a brand name attached, is marketed for migraines). I don't get drowsy with it (and I use it in a scenario in which drowsiness would be a real problem). Probably best not to drive unless you know that it doesn't make you drowsy (and I expect the product information will say the same).

Babdoc · 24/03/2018 18:18

You can buy Stugeron (Cinnarazine) over the counter. It is an antihistamine, and can make you a little drowsy, but much less so than Buccastem (Prochlorperazine), which is a phenothiazine.
It’s very effective for travel sickness - I can’t get on a coach without it.
The usual adult dose is two tabs about 2 hours before travelling, then you can take one tab 8 hours later if necessary.

dirtybadger · 24/03/2018 20:52

@onlyconnect I meant the license for purchase from a pharmacy is only for migraine, so OP would need to lie to buy it from a pharmacy (or anyone else reading) if intending to use for travel sickness.

goingtotown · 25/03/2018 09:50

Stugeron from the pharmacist, couldn’t travel without it.

Psychobabble123 · 25/03/2018 09:52

A friend of mine swears by Phenergan. She drives with no problems so must not make her drowsy etc.

goingtotown · 25/03/2018 10:07

Travel sickness when driving is unusual.

Branleuse · 25/03/2018 10:10

Is there a reason it cant be antihistamine based.

I take 2 normal cetirizine and it works perfectly and no drowsiness

Branleuse · 25/03/2018 10:13

as for non antihistamine remedies, i think youve got

Sea-bands
Ginger sweets/ginger beer
nux vom 30c (homeopathic so you might not be interested - not interested in debating it, but I believe it has worked for me in the past, and many others swear by it)

Tequilamockinbird · 25/03/2018 10:21

I suffer from terrible travel sickness and have tried all sorts. The only thing that works for me is Stugeron.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/03/2018 10:24

"I've stated to feel travel sick even when I'm driving."

It's really unusual to get travel sickness when driving. Are you sure you aren't pregnant?

SadieHH · 25/03/2018 10:27

Avomine. I get it from Superdrug’s online doctor. I have terrible travel sickness and this stuff is magic. It gets me across the Atlantic on a ship without a murmer. The trip I took before I discovered it was a nightmare, I spent 7 days in my cabin. Going on a ship in a couple of weeks and have just replenished my supply!

SadieHH · 25/03/2018 10:29

Just realised Avomine is Phenergen. And I get travel sick while driving and definitely not pregnant!

dameofdilemma · 25/03/2018 10:34

Stugeron is the only one I've found works. Didn't make either dd or I drowsy.
Dd tried hyocine and phenergan but neither worked. And the travel bands were useless.

Whatififall · 25/03/2018 10:38

I use cinnazarine, it’s the active ingredient in Stugeron but buy it without the branding in the chemist and it’s cheaper. It does say may cause drowsiness but it doesn’t for me. It might be worth trying it on a day you’re not driving to see if it makes you drowsy.
Last summer I found I was getting travel sick when I was driving myself.

paddypants13 · 25/03/2018 10:39

I recommend Stugeron too. Everyone who I have recommended it to says it works for them.

onlyconnect · 26/03/2018 16:52

lonicarajaponica very unlikely to be pregnant: I've been sterilised and am getting on a bit too

OP posts:
onlyconnect · 26/03/2018 16:54

Branleuse the reason I don't want an anti histamine is because they make me really drowsy, even non- drowsy ones.
