We use Otrivin nasal drops, you can use it from birth, really good at clearing the nose for a few hours, we used to give it to dd before bed so she'd get some sleep, it stings a little when you use it, but just for a few seconds, and it's so good when they can breath properly again. Also saline nasal sprays can help loosen it all up. Dd loved it, great fun trying to get some up a nostril. Find a good pharmacist, they can usually recomend stuff. Good luck

Was recommended and prescribed phenergen by both doctor and head chemist in local pharmacy for 14 month old for long haul flight from Australia to NYC. Gave her only half (of their) recommended dosage and she still slept for 10 hours straight in a coma like state. Took forever waking her in alaska stopover-was starting to freak out but she came around-groggy but still wanting to sleep. Had no idea how powerful it was until started looking on net. Gave her a test run before we left with only a quarter of dose I gave her on plane and she was fine. Have to return when she's 19 months old so will try any alternative. It definitely works but was very disturbing to find out all this info after plane trip. I assumed they were prescribing a mild baby/toddler tested sedative.

My dd was recently prescribed Phenergan to be used in emergencies if she eats egg which she is allergic to. She is 14 months. it is not usually recommended for under 2's but she needs an antihistamine in case of allergic reaction. She is allowed only 2mls at her weight and I am hoping never to have to use it. It says on the bottle that it can cause breathing problems in small children so I would advise anyone NOT to use it unless under medical supervision.
