Catching hepatitis C

I've nc for this as it's obviously very personal and embarrassing.

The main question is can you catch hepatitis C from having sex with someone who has had it? And do I ask my GP or gum clinic for a test?

I had a friend quite a few years ago and I remember him telling me about when he was unwell in hospital and it turned out to be Hep C.

Recently we reconnected and had a short sexual relationship. Without condoms but I have contraception.

I have just been watching scrubs and just remembered he had Hep c. I'm now panicking!

I looked online and it says yes you can. The last time we had sex was 6 months ago.

I'm not really sure what to do. I feel sick now and freaking out.

surely he would have been treated ay the time so would no longer have it. Says it's rare for it to be transmitted by sex unless blood is involved

Hepatitis C has a low rate of sexual transmission. Also, if he'd been diagnosed in hospital he should have been referred to a hepatologist for follow up, meaning he should have received antiviral therapy if he didn't clear the infection naturally. The advances in hep C drugs in recent years have been amazing, so hopefully he was successfully treated.

Hepatitis C testing is done via blood test, and can be done via GP or GUM.

I did mean to add, even though the risk is small, it's still possible so you should go ahead and get tested.

Best to get checked, but the chances are very low - especially if hes already had treatment.
