There must be a million of these threads but I want one of my own [stamps foot, whines]

Found a breast lump last night. Never had one before. I buried my husband a week ago. Ds is FOURTEEN. I have a gp appointment on wednesday. Anyone who can talk me through what will happen at breast clinic (assuming my GP refers me) much appreciated?

I'm sorry about your husband's death and that you are now going through this.
Try not to stress, most lumps are benign.
And please insist on a referral to a breast clinic, no one can tell what a lump is from exterior, so don't be fobbed off by GP.
You will most likely get a mammogram first, then an ultrasound.
If they feel like it still needs investigating, they will do a biopsy, guided by ultrasound.
This could be tender for a few days, but nothing that should stop you doing anything.
And then the results (hopefully all good) will come back to your GP.
Good luck,

So sorry to hear about your DH

Re breast lump, I’ve had 2 over the years.

1st time the GP gave me the option of leaving a bit to monitor, or check up at breast clinic. I left it a bit as my Mum was dying at the time and didn’t want to deal with anything else at that point.

I did get checked -was seen at breast clinic within 2 weeks and it was all very streamlined. I saw a consultant (who drew a circle not only round the lump I found, but others too that I hadn’t), then had a mammogram (freaked slightly as for some reason they had to do it twice), then an ultrasound. They gave the results straight away as just having lumpy boobs (think they used the term calicified Hmm. Back to consultant for the ok and all done.

2nd time round it was a stray lymph node apparently.

Best to get these things checked imo. They see you pretty fast and same day results for NHS can’t be bad! Mostly nothing’s no bad is found, and if it is, the sooner the better for treatment. Good luck OP.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

Everything that motherlondon said. If you do a search on here you’ll find hundreds of threads by women with breast lumps and virtually all have a happy/benign ending. Statistics are something like 9/10 lumps are benign and the threads here most definitely reflect that.

It’s a tough time waiting for the breast clinic appt but ask for something for your gp if your overly anxious, especially given you’ve just lost your husband. Mine have me propranolol which was a life saver.

'Most lumps are benign'. Thank you very much for that, I do know it but might make it my phone home screen for a few days! really helpful to know the procedures, thank you.
