I have recently been diagnosed with Epilepsy, the consultant mentioned partial focal seizures. The question I have is, is my seizure typical? So, I have an aura, then my hands twitch, toes/feet twitch, eyes flutter and mouth moves, but I know this is happening and I can’t do anything to stop it. Like I am aware(ish) of the surroundings. Is it normal to be aware? I always thought that people with epilepsy didn’t know or blacked out.

I believe focal seizures affect 'a part' of the brain, whereas generalised seizures affect the whole brain.
I think generalised you lose consciousness, but focal, you can remain aware but not in control.
I hope this clarifies a bit for you, but you could always ask your neuro, I would hope he/she could explain a bit better than me.

Yes perfectly normal. Mine are like absence seizures and I know what's happening and when it's about to happen. My arm twitches and I look a bit dopey. I don't black out or lose my balance.

Thanks, I’m waiting for an EEG and MRI so I’ll be seeing him when I get my results. My DB was diagnosed 2 years ago and has the ones where he convulses and passes out so they are the only ones I have any info on.

Just out of interest if your DB was diagnosed is this genetic and linked to a condition like TSC by any chance? If so you'd have very different epilepsy from your DB depending on the location of the tubers in the brain.

Epilepsy Action and Epillepsy UK have good websites and also helplines so you can talk to someone, usually with first hand experience. They'll be able to talk you through a lot of thus stuff. There are lots of different types of seizures - but it's all about finding the right medication.

Thanks all. No idea what TSC is Tizzle, I shall look it up.
