yes, definitely particularly if it's heavy enough that you are getting a touch anaemic. I'd try and take some multivits/and or eat some iron rich food.

Nbg · 07/05/2007 20:12

Could still be jetlag but you might be anemic.

Did I read that you have had nasty gasto bug?

lou33 · 07/05/2007 20:16

i was in hospital in thailand with gastroenteritis, but i have felt ok with that since last tues

i think i might have to go to the doc about this at some point, my periods are getting heavier and more frequent

perimenopause?

Ignorant question coming up.....

How much do you lose in a month ?

Some months I am flattened and I know I am not peri.

LGJ

Mercy · 07/05/2007 20:20

Lou, could well be perimenopause I'm afraid. I've been experiencing more frequent and heavier periods for about 1.5 years now.

I'll have several months were everything being as per usual, and then a few months of mayhem. I am permanently tired.

lou33 · 07/05/2007 20:22

dont know lgj but i'm soaking super absorbancy in a short time

tmi tmi!

so sounds heavy enough to be going to the docs about. Even if no cause can be pinned down, they can prescribe non-hormonal medication to help reduce the bloodflow

DoorstoManual · 07/05/2007 20:24

I do that too every other month, maybe I am peri now.

Arse

cece · 07/05/2007 20:24

I went to the doc about heavy periods and I am currently on my second af taking soem wonderful tablets called t..... acid. Now instead of changing every hour I can go up to 3 hours No more getting up in the night either.

DoorstoManual · 07/05/2007 20:25

Or should that be fanny.

Mercy · 07/05/2007 20:26

Agree MTS.

But what is a short time for you? One or 2 hours? Less?

yoyo · 07/05/2007 20:28

I am wondering about this too. Have been to hospital and have been prescribed something for loss. Have to have a scan and another procedure whereby they can look inside the uterus (can't remember the name). Have been given charts to complete too. Am going to ask GP for hormone tests as have had a 19 day cycle this month and it can last for more than 7 days. Not surprisingly, I feel shattered too.

Nbg · 07/05/2007 20:28

Don't want to be the voice of doom but this is what happened to my mum when she was peri.
She started early 40's.

Had to have a coil fitted to reduce bloodloss.

cece · 07/05/2007 20:28

If you look up heavy periods on NHS direct website there is lots of info including ml of what your blood loss should be and what is considered to be heavy. No good if you use towels or tampons but useful if you use a mooncup!

Mercy · 07/05/2007 20:35

I'm 44 this year, so I should think it's the periM. in my case (have had a few night sweats too )

lou33 · 07/05/2007 20:38

i was 40 in jan

OP posts:
lou33 · 07/05/2007 20:45

also this is the 3rd day and it's heavier than the last 2 days

OP posts:
cece · 07/05/2007 20:46

My third day is often the worse.

lou33 · 07/05/2007 20:47

not for me tho, it's usually on its way out

nothing new to add but very interested to read replies. I always have one or two days during my period when I just feel completely wiped out, and if it coincides with a weekend I'll 'take to my bed' if it's possible. I've been to the docs twice in the past about short cycles and longer heavier periods, but they have always told me to 'keep an eye on it'. I'm 31, and it started when I was 27, so it can't be perimenopause can it? Got to say though that I've been lots better since starting with the coil, although the tiredness is there every month still.

lou33 · 07/05/2007 21:27

i'd rather not have a coil

i had one years ago and had it taken out as it kept giving me infections

also i've been sterilised so i dont need it from that pov

OP posts:
lou33 · 08/05/2007 16:21

and today it has pretty much stopped altogether
