Coil checks

Can anyone tell me if I'm able to get a coil check at any time or does it have to be only on a specific schedule?

I had one fitted in September and it was checked a few weeks later, but I wasn't actually using it as contraception. I've just started a sexual relationship and before we actually dtd, I'm wondering if I can get it checked for placement again so that I know I'm safe... But I don't know if that's allowed. Can anyone advise?

I had mine checked by the practice nurse when i couldn't feel the strings

dementedpixie · 15/03/2018 20:08

Can you feel the strings?

Sorry for the delay... I've never been able to feel the strings, I have a tilted womb and a mild prolapse- sorry, I didn't even think about that!

My strings had disappeared after 6 months and I had a scan to check it was in position, which it was and was basically told to leave it until it’s due for removal.
I guess the biggest indicator would be the return of periods. But for a new sexual relationship I’d probably use other methods to avoid sti

Thanks @bimbobaggins , because it's a copper coil it's not affected my periods. I have obviously taken STD's into consideration.

Although, it's all irrelevant now... I LTB over the weekend for being a lying twat... Grin

Oh, that’s a shame push.
I didn’t realise that about the copper coil though, thanks.

Yeah, there's no hormones in it. It made them longer and heavier to start with after fitting, but settled down after a few months so they wouldn't give it away.

I can't see myself having another relationship anytime soon, but if I do I won't hesitate to organise a check.
