I was on antibiotics about 3 weeks ago and then was horrendously I’ll with flu. My tongue is white and tastes awful and my tummy feels unsettled. Does anyone know best way to get rid of oral thrush?

The only way mine went was with a prescription for Nystatin.

It's horrible so I hope you're okay xxx

As per the above comment and then use corsodyl mouthwash (from Tesco or boots etc) to keep it from recurring for a while. I have it a lot from my asthma inhalers despite following all the stuff you’re supposed to do (brushing and mouth wash after every use etc)!

Thank you both - very helpful advice. Hadn’t thought of mouthwash. My teeth feel so yucky in the morning despite brushing.

Corsodyl is excellent but read the instructions carefully! If you use it too soon after brushing it can stain your teeth...

I’m the same OP. I’ve had many things over the last three weeks to try shifting oral thrush. I’m just finishing Fluconazole tablets as nothing else seems to work.

My tongue still tingles a bit but I think my thrush is finally gone.

You can buy daktarin gel over the counter. Nystatin or Fluconazole by prescription

You can get daktarin OTC as a stop gap measure, it usually does me till I can get fluconozole from the GP. Tastes better than nystatin too - they tend to make you try it first where I am.

I have it at the moment, it’s horrible so Flowers for you! After extensive googling I went to the GP as it seems like one of those things that won’t go away without antibiotics. I’m on day 2 of nystatin so hoping things improve soon.

Lobsterface · 15/03/2018 21:42

Fluconozol is an anti fungal not antibiotic crumble, as is nystatin. I can’t spell it though Blush

Nystatin worked for me when I had oral thrush. I was advised to use Corsodyl to keep it at bay, and it stained my teeth horribly, even though I kept off coffee and tea etc. When my hygienist cleaned the stains off, he recommended Curasept mouthwash. It has the same active ingredient as Corsodyl, but doesn't stain. I get it from Amazon. It is expensive, but effective.

Oraldene mouthwash is good.

Thank you for the recent updates and for telling me about the staining. Will avoid Cordosyl.
Anyone tried probiotic capsules?

I’ve been told in the past to take probiotics when I’m on antibiotics (nystatin is an antibiotic anti fungal so we’re both right lobster!) as it helps keep the good bacteria in your gut (or something like that) but I don’t think they would clear the thrush up on their own. You really are best seeing your GP.
