Calf muscle tear - what to do?

I fell in the snow just over a week ago and felt my calf muscle crunch - instant pain at the top of my calf and struggle to walk without limping. No obvious bruising or swelling but it’s still really sore - manageable walking, can’t run/kneel/crouch and stairs/slopes are tricky. Should I be looking for some treatment/physio or is it just a case of waiting?

I tore my calf muscle, possibly a bit worse than you because there was a bruise from just below the back of my knee to just above my ankle. I iced and elevated it as much as possible and didn't drive for about 10 days. I did get physio about five or six weeks after the tear, and once I was back at the gym my personal trainer massaged it (he has a sports massage qualification). The physio really helped a lot, and she gave me exercises to do which also improved my recovery rate. One of the things that the physio did was dry-needling, which hurt about ten times as much as the injury itself but felt a lot better afterwards.

For ages after it had recovered I was quite nervous about doing it again and careful with the leg that it happened to, but now I can barely even remember which leg it was.

Same as BlackAmericano pretty much. It was two weeks before I could walk anywhere near normally, and six weeks to walk totally normally. I had the toe to knee bruise! I didn't have any physio and mine healed relatively quickly and no problems since. Mine was done playing tennis. The doctor said it was a common injury amongst middle age women (I was about 37!) because the muscle shortens because of high heels (I never wore high heels but I think it was tight from running). I felt like I'd been shot in the leg when it happened.

Thanks - no bruise so sounds promising for me. Good to know there is yet another middle aged woman injury Grin
