Very frequent periods. Any ideas?

I've had regular as clockwork periods for 30 odd years until just after Christmas. Since then they've started arriving about every two weeks. Anyone else had this? Is it likely to be a perimenopause thing? (I'm mid 40s). Is it something I should see the doctor about?
TIA

I'm nearly 45 and mine have in the last year gone from 30 days to 24/25. I'm assuming it's perimenopause. Not sure whether the two week thing is the same though.

I’m nearly 45 and mine have done the same, I’m pretty sure it’s peri menopause and I’m going to go to the women’s health clinic at my doctors and see if they have a better idea of what happens next

Thanks for the replies.
Just shows how ill prepared I am for the menopause. I thought they'd get less frequent rather than more frequent.
You reckon it's worth going to see the doctor then?

This happened to me at 44. I had a 28 day cycle for 30 odd years then it changed. Sometimes I'd get a period every two weeks and then I wouldn't get one for six weeks so it was quite unpredictable.

As well as becoming irregular they got much heavier too. I eventually went to see my GP because it was making life quite difficult. I ended up having a Mirena coil put in at 46 which stopped my periods completely. Thank God.

Mine are getting more frequent as I head towards the menopause. Worth seeing the GP though to rule out any other possible causes, I think. Mine gave me a blood test to check hormone levels (this has to be done at the midpoint of your cycle I think - tricky when you’re irregular!)

Good to know about Mirena. If that's what's happening, I'd love to see the back of them. Will make an appointment and find out if that's it.
Bloody menopause - in my head in a young woman! Shock

You might have developed fibroids. Your GP should be able to book an ultrasound for you to check this for you. A lot of women have no symptoms from fibroids, but they can cause excessive bleeding.
