Have treated DD for headlice, wet combed with conditioner, but there's still some tiny white specks in her hair...

that don't seem to be caught by the comb.

Should I be worried, and what should I do?

they sound like eggs
just continue with combing
boring but essential, sorry

lyrabelacqua · 06/05/2007 21:08

You won't get rid of them till they hatch. Wait a few days and treat/comb again to get rid of the live ones before they lay eggs. Continue till all eggs are gone.

Oh god, lyra

thought I'd seen the last of the crawlers...

the white ones are empty shells and are hard to remove without picking them off one by one.
the ones you need to rid of are the ones that are brown. they are the ones harbouring the little nasties!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/05/2007 21:11

harder to get out because they are empty so very slim and fit thru the comb teeth.

ceolas · 06/05/2007 21:14

Now that would make sense. They do come off if I pick them out, but small enough to slip through the teeth of the comb.

I wouldn't worry about the empty ones, they will come out over time. You'll catch a few with the comb each time. You are gonna be glued to that comb for the next couple of weeks.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/05/2007 21:18

yes, you dont need to get them out. i meant to say that. the white empty ones are harmless they just look a bit manky dont they? but they are concentrated along the nape of the neck yes?
so they cant really be seen.
if all that is left are white ones you have done well!

lucykate · 06/05/2007 21:19

i don't wet comb dd's hair, its too fine and slips through the comb with the egg still attached. i do it when its dry and pull them out with my nails. takes longer but i find this works better for me. just need a strong light and some clips so you can do a small area at a time.

ceolas · 06/05/2007 21:20

They are behind the ears and at the nape. No crawlers since the Full Marks treatment on Thursday

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/05/2007 21:21

they are the normal places for major infestation.
nasty little feckers!

lucykate · 06/05/2007 21:22

in one session i found 1 live louse but about 60 eggs. thankfully, we've been nit free since changing to a different tea tree leave in conditioner.

MrsWho · 06/05/2007 21:54

I am sick of nits , finally get the kids nit free in hols then back to school nad it starts again

jollymum · 07/05/2007 12:35

Hairdressers won't cut any of my kids' hair because of the white shells, so now they all look like yetis! Any ideas, apart from picking them out, as there's loads and loads!

Thanks I have just ordered one of those!

Surfermum · 07/05/2007 21:01

The Nitty Gritty comb is fab and gets everything out. I was amazed how much I got with one of those after using one of the little plastic ones. You can get them on prescription or here
