Need to try to keep myself calm as I know there are a host of things it could be. After some horrendous symptoms, A&E visits and hospital stays since Sept last year and them not figuring out what exactly is wrong (rather, not even attempting to), I had an endoscopy on the 1st March. They found a hernia, some ulcers and gastritis. Obviously they took the standard biopsies. I was meant to have my next gastro appointment on the 19th Feb and received a letter yesterday to say it has been cancelled and they'll be in touch in due course. Then about ten minutes ago, I got a call from my GP surgery to say the hospital has sent them a letter and I've to go in for an urgent appointment. She couldn't tell me any more. There weren't any appointments available before next Friday so I've booked that but am going to phone first thing in the hope I can get one because I'm going stir crazy.

Here for a hand hold.
If it is anything it's good they've called you in. It may also not be anything terrible and they are clearing a back log (happened with my son and we had two appointments and they crossed over).Either way the appointments will give you more info and in that way more control.
Easy for me to say , but there is nothing you can do tonight and worrying won't give you anything but anxiety. Is there anything you could do to keep yourself busy?

Theworldisfullofidiots · 07/03/2018 17:37

Sorry misread its next Friday.
They can do more urgent appointments than that, so that in itself is good.
What can you do to keep yourself in a good place until then? Something practical.

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 17:37

Will be making dinner and taking the dog on an extra long walk to keep busy. I just hate that they land you with things like that and then the first appointment they can give you is more than a week away. Really keeping everything crossed I can get through first thing tomorrow morning for appointments released on the day.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 07/03/2018 17:42

I agree it absolutely doesn't help your anxiety about what this could be about. Dog walk sounds like a good idea. I'm taking my silly fluff ball out later.

EllenRipley · 07/03/2018 18:07

OP that is rubbish (but obvs pretty standard) behaviour by the surgery! As pp said, they'd be able to get you in aLOT sooner - there's urgent and then there's URGENT. That said, when you speak to them tomorrow, explain how this has been presented to you and that it has made you extremely anxious so you need to see or speak to a GP asap tomorrow. There's no reason you should be made to spend a week tying yourself in knots when a doctor has the information you need to hand. Good luck and hugs to you x

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 18:10

@Theworldisfullofidiots mine walks me so will definitely be a good distraction Smile

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 18:13

Thanks @EllenRipley the biopsy is the only test I've had done lately so I know it can only refer to that but exactly: there's urgent and then there's URGENT. The irony is that the appointment they've given me is with the same GP who told me to "grin and bear" the pain last year. I look forward to stomping on his toes. In my mind of course Grin

If it was urgent the GP would be seeing you immediately or would be phoning you IME , in fact if it was that urgent the consultant at the hospital would have asked to see you ,not the GP . I’d call the surgery tomorrow morning and ask for a telephone consultation and if you dont get anywhere with that I’d ring the consultants secretary and see if the consultant could speak to you .

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 18:24

I think you're right @Floralnomad

I'm going to use the online system tomorrow morning to try and get an appointment. If you referesh it continually after 7.59am, sometimes a few appointments come up. I'll be on the phone waiting in the queue while I do this too. My surgery "doesn't do" phone consultations Hmm

OP posts:
Theworldisfullofidiots · 07/03/2018 18:33

Oh that's rubbish. Phone consultations can save your sanity (and the GPs I think). I've realised how lucky we are with our GP surgery.

Complete aside, what kind of dog do you have that takes you for walks?

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 18:36

@Theworldisfullofidiots My practice has some wonderful part time doctors but is unfortunately managed by the head GP and her family (all full time GP's) and they're slightly void of souls hence stricter rules around everything.

She's a jack russell/collie cross. So smarter than me and the energy of several Olympians Grin What kind of fluff ball do you have?

Theworldisfullofidiots · 07/03/2018 18:39

I'm a heathen.
I have a cockerpoo who tried to bury a ball of wool when I got home from seeing a client today. He has been to dog training v regularly for the three years we've had him and he still occasionally just does what he wants e.g oh look there is a tyre -I like jumping through tyres!

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 18:44

@Theworldisfullofidiots I swear they laugh at us for the amount of money and time we spend trying to make them even just slightly mentally stable.

OP posts:
Theworldisfullofidiots · 07/03/2018 19:14

That made me laugh out loud. My dd just gave me this look Hmm

Theworldisfullofidiots · 08/03/2018 07:43

Hope you get through today.

teaiseverything · 08/03/2018 10:26

Morning @Theworldisfullofidiots

The only appointments available today were with really horrid doctors but I managed to get one with a good doctor for first thing tomorrow, 7.40am, to get it out the way.

OP posts:
Theworldisfullofidiots · 08/03/2018 13:24

Yeah. Hope it goes ok
Flowers for today.

teaiseverything · 09/03/2018 11:46

GP said there was a mix up and apologised for the use of "urgent" when it was in fact just to give me the meds I need for 8 weeks before my next endoscopy!

OP posts:
Theworldisfullofidiots · 09/03/2018 12:18

Yeah! What a relief!

dahliaaa · 09/03/2018 12:56

That's great news tea. Awful for you to have the anxiety for no reason.

teaiseverything · 09/03/2018 13:14

Thanks for keeping me sane @Theworldisfullofidiots

I know @dahliaaa , not the smartest use of "urgent" when someone is waiting for biopsy results

OP posts:
Theworldisfullofidiots · 09/03/2018 14:07

I'm glad it's all ok. Hope the rest of your investigations/treatment go well.

EllenRipley · 10/03/2018 13:49

Good news OP! Hope you feel better soon x
