No experience, but I found this , this , and this . General pov , from what I can gather, is that reptiles shouldn't be kept with children under the age of five in the house, or while pg. Hth

hi johno,
I wouldn't take the risk of having a bearded dragon whilst trying to conceive - and they are not recommended in households with young children either. Reptiles carry a highish risk of infecting humans with salmonella and toxoplasmosis, pregnant women and preschool children are at particular high risk of contracting these, tho there are precautions you can take. They often carry the disease without showing symptoms. see here for bearded dragon information

Sorry to be so negative

they are very interesting sites lou, thank u, i already have dogs, cats, rabbits, a hamster and a parrot, but i know they dont carry salmonella, this was what was worrying me, perhaps we should have a rethink,

cant understand this age 5, when there were children at white post farm handling snakes today, one woman whos child was stroking the snake was 20 months, they have no signs up or anything, my Ds would have stroked it if the queue hadnt been so long, there was quite a few toddlers in the line

Wow, we're off to Australia soon and top of the list of things to do with our toddler was a wildlife sanctuary where I wouldn't have thought twice about letting our son touch any reptile that was offered.

Makes you wonder how Steve Irwin's two kids have survived!

Lisa78 · 02/08/2004 22:30

Or how he has survived! Didn't he get into bother for taking his children too near something with too many big teeth?

johno · 02/08/2004 22:33

that was a croc at a zoo wasnt it, stupid man, said he was trying to make a point that they wont attack unless provoked or something, yer right
