My mates little girl is 5.5 and is on her 3rd tooth coming out. My friend is a bit worried that this is too early, because people keep saying 'ooo she is young'!

Anyone else able to offer help here, I don't think its a problem, but would really like to reassure my mate TIA.

That's interesting what you say about late milk tooth eruption being linked to late tooth shedding, roisin. That's exactly what we're seeing with dd. She too was over a year before her first tooth, and now at nearly 12 has still got them all firmly in place except the 8 front incisors. The dentist doesn't seem worried at all. I don't think losing them a bit early is a problem either, (I wonder if the girl in question had early milk teeth too?) except, I suppose, it would help if they are more careful/efficient at toothbrushing a bit younger as well.

my ds is 6 and hasn't lost any! His dentist says some children can lose first teeth at 9.

Earliest and latest I have known...

ds1's best friend lost his first milk tooth when he wasn't even 4

A friend's dd1 had a full set of milk teeth until she was nearly 11.

Both have perfectly normal adult teeth.

Thankyou sandcastles. It is quite raw so we are being really gentle. The tooth fairy also left an extra coin as compensation for her trauma

ds lots his first 1&2 quickly together, aged 7.5! top one just finally fell out, and new one there underneath. other ds age 5 now has a black tooth on top where he fell 3 weeks ago, and was bleeding and swollen. Dentist has told him not to wobble it (but that was before he knows it is black ), as may damage adult tooth in gum.

Ds1 still has all his teeth firmly in place - he is just 6. Quite a few of his friends have lost teeth already aged 5.

daftasabrush, I hope she is all better soon.

I can imagine how sore it must be, you have a nice tooth fairy!

my twins managed to knock out their front top teeth (don't ask ) at just over 4 - how long before the adult teeth are likely to come through - I am guessing they will come at about 6-7 as they would if the milk teeth had still been there ?
