Bartholins Gland Cyst

Just wondering if anyone has experienced Bartholins Gland Cysts and how they managed it or if they had treatment. I am on my third episode, first two needed antibiotics as they ended up as abscesses but this third one isn't infected, just blocked. I am applying hot compresses, taking epsom salt baths, and have just started serrapeptase after seeing that recommended somewhere. But I'm two weeks in and still feel like I have a rather uncomfortable golf ball between my legs !

I've recently had one and oh bloody hell. It's recurring and for me, I have to say the only thing that ever gets it to burst is lying spread eagle with a damp cloth on the offender itself then put a hot water bottle on top of it. It seems to bring it to a head more quickly than a hot bath for some reason.

You have my sympathies.

I used to get these every 3-5 months or so. Heat and Epsom salt baths as often as you can manage I found are the best things. Also keeping moving seemed to help it burst sooner.

I had mine marsupialised after the 3rd abscess, but it didn't work, so wasn't worth it for me, but it might be something to ask the dr about? I did find the cyst burst quicker each time, so perhaps it weakened the skin. Childbirth seems to have totally cured it, but that's obviously a bit drastic.

Lots of sympathy from me, they are bloody awful.

I've had these. Sympathies from me too.

If it's any consolation, they mainly seem to affect women under thirty. So if that's your age, you can look forward to growing out of them. Smile

I had to have surgery to remove mine. It was 10000000% more painful than childbirth before I had the surgery. The surgery itself was successful (no reoccurrence in the 5 years since I had the surgery) however, the stitches left scar tissue and sex was so so incredibly painful for about 6 months afterwards.

Unfortunately I'm 50 this year so seems to be something I've grown into !!! Only started taking the serrapeptase today and have seen that others have found that has made a difference after 3 or 4 days.

It's a bloody nightmare, I'm really hoping I don't have to go down the surgical route but I guess if there's no improvement soon I will have to go to docs xx

I'm pretty sure I have this at the moment and it's agony! Do you have any idea of what causes it?

olddogsnewtricks · 08/03/2018 20:48

My sympathies! I had mine operated on and it worked and I didn't have any problems. (I was 13 though and I told the doctor I had had it for a month - actually it was almost a year but I was too embarrassed to tell anyone as I thought it was fatal...Blush I hope my daughter would confide in me in that situation!)

TinaBeanz · 09/03/2018 19:54

GingerTigerCat it can be caused by a variety if bacteria, a lot of which are fairly normal and it is often just one of those things. I ended up going to my GP last Tuesday who sent me straight to hospital ! The first Gynae registrar said it needed surgery, the second who examined me (And left me feeling like I'd been fingered by Freddy Krueger 😣😣😣), said it was draining slightly so couldn't operate but would treat with antibiotics - despite it being in excess of 5cm diameter. Three days of antibiotics and it hasn't really changed other than it is now rock hard! I am feeling thoroughly miserable and sick of being in pain. I am getting married in six months and really worried that it's still going to be bothering me then. Ginger keeping my fingers crossed that you don't have one, I would nip to docs and check but in the meantime you could start with hot compresses and salt baths just in case xx
