Merina Coil

Not sure this is the place but wondered if you can help me.

My periods have been all over the place since having the coil fitted (was fitted in August 2017) and my last one was on the 30th Jan and last for 11 days and was very heavy. However my period has now failed to turn up. I have taken 6 tests which have all been negative. I don't know what is going on.. is this normal? Should I worry??

I had it years ago and had to have it taken out as it caused absolute havoc with my periods. They became very irregular and really heavy (cycle was always like clockwork before with only a couple of heavy days).
It’s probably just the coil causing problems and you aren’t pregnant, but the coil can sometimes fail so maybe keep testing every few days just to be sure

if it is an actual Mirena coil then no periods is rather the whole point.

any other type then maybe a call to FP/GP might be in order.

lovewatchingrainfall · 04/03/2018 17:32

Yes it is the actual Merina coil.
Thank you will check again in a couple of days and if still negative know it's the merina stopping them. I had heard that they could stop but only after a year.

It can take a while for the Mirena to settle down. Mine took about six months after which I had no more periods.

Worth getting it checked if you are worried though.

I had no periods with the mirena coil and had it in for 5 years. It was great and I must have saved a fortune on sanitary products!

I had only 1 period at the start when I got the mirena and then they stopped. It may be that it can take up to a year for them to stop but can stop quicker than that too
