So apparently double vision isn't normal...

Ok I hear how stupid this sounds when you say it out loud, but as long as I can remember I've had double vision! I've never seen it as that though, just lazy eyes that do their own thing when I'm focusing on something like reading or a screen.

I went to the opticians today as I've been suffering from visual auras that now have a migraine accompanying them. I haven't had a problem with migraines since I was a child (17 odd years ago) until Sunday and I've had 4 since, 3 with the auras. The auras with no pain have been happening for about 5 years but went through the roof about a year ago and I can have them 3-4 times a week or maybe even go weeks between.

I'm getting glasses with prism lenses and some eye exercises but I'm worried that I've had the issue so long that it can't be corrected.

Does anyone have any experience? I fully accept what a stupid situation this is but after years of regular eye tests, it's never been pointed out as abnormal or something that needs correcting and I thought it was just 'one of those things'!

Op - I'm coming back to this thread shortly but just googled Diplopia as I have been diagnosed it last Wednesday for the first time and also now realise that double vision isn't normal?!?!?!

I've had double vision for years and despite regular eye tests it's not been touched on.

I'm reading up on it at the moment and will come back to the thread soon.
I can't wait to see singular again but have so many questions!

@springmachine I can't help but feel relieved that it's not just me, everyone keeps saying I'm mad for not knowing!

I now have prism lenses which make me feel really seasick and like there are pillows under the pavement that are causing big bulges in the road, it's so disorientating but I'm getting used to it.

The first couple of days I could feel my eyes being pulled back but now it seems like they're not doing much but I'll persevere!

Let us know how you get on Smile

@DollyLlama

My new glasses with prism came today!

I put them on and i could feel my eyes relax a little which felt amazing.

However I've noticed wandering around be house this morning that despite the double vision being improved, my sight does skip back into it sometimes.

Do you find the same?

I'm waiting for an appointment with an eye specialist.

Apparently the double vision could have been caused by my thyroid which a few years back went into overdrive for a few months.

I'm wondering whether they will offer surgery to help ?

I also wonder if I'm ok wearing contacts too.

I get married at the end of the year and glasses isn't in my plans

@springmachine once I’d been wearing my glasses for a while, I found I could actually go without them for an hour or two without my eyes going back to not working properly, especially if I wasn’t doing close work that requires lots of focus. So you may find that you can not wear your glasses for your ceremony/wedding breakfast and just put them when you start to get tired, as that’s when your eyes are likely to start skipping back again

Sorry slight thread hijack (but there appears to be some good knowledge on here). I had what they called 2 base prisms in each lense last time and this time they said 1 in one lense only. I’ve not bought the new glasses yet as I think she may have tested wrong (optician didn’t even do that test until I asked her!!) I’m going back to question it but will they just tell me my eyes have improved (they haven’t!!) ?

OP my glasses now are just normal looking although I did pay for thinning. Prisms make life much easier!
