Hey. I've had skin tags/ warts in a small cluster under my breast for as long as I can remember. I'm 4 months on from having my second baby. I was in the bath a few months ago and noticed that a few of them have changed to dark brown/black! So I went to doctor and she's referred me to dermatology which I am freaking out about. Why has she referred me just like that! Could it be something sinister? I was hoping cause it's like 4 of them that's changed and that my nipples went really dark during pregnancy that it'll be ok?!?! I've got my dermatologist appointment on Monday. Freakingout.com

Hi, don’t panic about the referral. Many GPS aren’t experts in dermatology so prefer to refer. I have been referred 5 tines, has 5 miles removed as a precaution and all have turned out to be fine. The dermatologist will look with a special torch which can see under the first few layers of skin. If they see any abnormalities they will advise what they think the best course of action is. If they advise to remove them I suggest you go with this. The removed moles/skin tags will then be sent for testing. Please don’t panic, you’ve done the right thing by going to your GP Smile

It can be nerve wracking I know but just try and stay calm about it. And trust that the NHS will deal with it as quickly as possible - if anything needs dealing with! When I was pregnant I had lots of new moles appear too - as if we don’t have enough rubbish side effects of pregnancy!

Referrals are for when a gp doesn’t know what something is or they are unable to treat just with a prescription as well as if they think it’s something sinister. Try not to panic. Easier said than done though.
