How urgent is this?

DD aged 21 seems to have a UTI, burning when weeing, hot, abdo pain, she is pretty miserable. We are snowed in, in Ireland. How urgent is this? Google suggests immediate treatment is necessary. I'm not sure how long it will be before we get to a GP. Not even a pharmacy open either. TIA

Pretty urgent. UTI’s can turn into kidney infections very quickly

eosmum · 02/03/2018 17:17

crap!! Was hoping to hear just uncomfortable not serious. Right I'll see what I can do. Thanks "Justwaiting"

Don't know about Ireland but in the UK there are online services which send prescription to chemist if that's easier or they post them but yes needs looking at quickly.

GP’s can prescribe antibiotics over the phone for simple UTIs. Give them a ring and see if they can fax a prescription to your nearest pharmacy. In an otherwise fit and healthy 21 year old I’m sure they’d do it given the circumstances of the weather.

Yes I've had an NHS doctor do that once at 5pm on a Friday though when I told another doctor he was horrified but worth a shot.

In England some pharmacists have extra training under local agreements, and are able to supply trimethoprim for UTIs. When a pharmacy is open, it may be quicker to go this route...if it applies in Ireland. Unfortunately not all pharmacies will offer it, even if this scheme does also exist in Ireland...

Thanks all. Eventually got it sorted. Walked without DD but with a sample to the emergency doc, got prescription. Doc said ok to get antibiotic in the morning as no pharmacies open but gave me a couple of doses to get her started. 2.5 hour round trip, exhausted.

You're a wonderful Mum ThanksThanks

Penguinsandpandas · 02/03/2018 22:31

That's very good of you. Normally you feel much better after a couple of days, if she's not or worsening its very important to go to doctor again to check its not gone to kidneys. Hopefully it will go, normally does, and if not hopefully snow will have gone.

I am having an operation next month to remove a bit of an extra rob and a bunch of fibrous strands that has been causing me terrible pain and hypersensitivity for 10 years !!

It took a physiotherapist to mention thoracic outlet syndrome 1 year later and a tone of doctors for me to get

To see a specialist and finally tell me what I have and I can be cured .
I can't wait to feel normal and be pain free
Anyone have a similar surgery
